Hi everyone,
Bob and I are starting a monthly Holy Face of Jesus prayer group at St. Mary Oratory, and all are welcome! Our first prayer time will be this Monday, January 19, at 11:15 a.m., in the church. The Traditional Latin Mass will follow at noon. If you or your family have never experienced this ancient liturgy of the Church, this might be a good opportunity. The Holy Face prayer time consists of the rosary and various Holy Face prayers and will last no more than half an hour. Confession is available from 11:15 – 11:45.
The Holy Face of Jesus devotion was revealed by Jesus to Sr. Marie of St. Pierre in the mid-1800s and was approved by Pope Leo XIII in 1885. The primary purpose of this devotion is to make reparation for sins against the first three commandments: denial of God, blasphemy, and the profanation of Sundays and Holy Days.
If you’d like to learn more about this devotion, there will be an informational meeting tomorrow, January 18, at 9:30 a.m., in the basement of the church. Among other things, we’ll talk about how to join the Holy Face Army, a Holy Face Pilgrimage, and how to become a member of the Archconfraternity of the Holy Face which St. Therese and some of her family members belonged to. If you can’t make it to St. Mary’s but would like more information about these things, just email me.
