SMS messages - RapidPro replaces + with %B2

Hi,

SMS messages where the text include a complete phone number (+, country code, cell no) are being automatically modified by RapidPro - the + character is replaced by %B2 when the SMS is sent out.

How can I encapsulate/escape + characters so that RapidPro treats the + as a literal character?
