Feedback on Testing of USSD Functionality

both the Vumi USSD channel and a Nexmo account (South African number -

1) In the Contact detail view, the 'Send Message' button causes the system

sending of SMS from within a USSD flow?

Please let us know whether there is a workaround for this?

On points 1 and 2, they both sound like bugs, if you can, please log issues with appropriate details.

On three, my intuition is that we would support sending sms messages from with a USSD flow (presuming that you have a channel capable of sending messages). I'll have to check with the team and discuss. In either event, the SMS Response action should definitely not show up in your USSD session, so that part deserves it's own issue as well.
