Dear Friends and Colleagues:

Attached see the TOC fand my introductory article for the 63rd Annual Meeting of the Rapaport-Klein Study Group, recently published in Psychoanalytic Psychology.

In the June 2026 meeting, our keynote address was a discussion by Mark Solms of the Revised Standard Edition and of concerns that Strachey’s Standard Edition inaccurately scientized Freud’s work. 

The remainder of the meeting was spent discussing various ways in which unconscious mental functioning, a central aspect of psychoanalysis and psychoanalytic theory, might be reformulated in light of modern developments in cognitive science, developmental psychology, and neuroscience, with contributions by Wilma Bucci, Anne Erreich, and Joel Weinberger. Meanwhile, Jerome Wakefield spoke to the group not about empirical questions but about how Freud revolutionized philosophy of mind through his argument that the unconscious, not consciousness, defines mental activity.

It was an honor and a pleasure to edit these exemplary discussions of basic aspects of psychoanalysis.
