With our Opening Explorer you can browse our entire chess database move by move obtaining statistics about the results of each possible continuation.
The Opening Explorer is a great tool if you want to study chess openings.
Another weird thing: if I play few games on the app (let's say like 5 games) and then get into my explorer on my computer it has a banner saying "importing recent games" and after a while I get like about 100 games added.. so if I had to guess I would say chess.com imports the games into the explorer only if you use the explorer and there are NEW games that are not there and that process probably times out after a while due to connection or whatever reason, so some old games are imported but not all...I can repeat this (play a game, get into the explorer and wait 30 mins for it to load more games and repeat) but it seems very silly - this should be fixed, we are paying for it.
I wrote to support and got a pretty fast reply and since more and more of my games were slowly appear in the explorer, and now I guess I have most of them in the explorer, though as mentioned above, it seems that some games will never be there if they are too short, too old, or in some specific different variants or time controls. The number of games never matches the game archive number for me, but it is very close so it makes sense that I have some games that were abandoned in the first 2 moves, or some 960 games that could make up for the difference (though I think not only those).
I would recommend talking to support and tell them you want to use this feature frequently, as I think chess.com does some storage optimization and does not import games to the explorer for users that very rarely use it.
I have the same issue, I played 850 games, and 126 recent games are missing. Already wrote to support but they told me that it is a known issue and that's it but I don't think it's fair since we are paying 15 bucks a month for that
I find it super frustrating that the chess.com "coach" will say I've played a particular opening roughly 400 times and then when I check explorer there are only about half as many. How do I know what to trust when the stats look completely different when given in the two different locations.
The Opening Explorer can be accessed by either going directly to the Analysis Board (which now supports all variants and displays the opening name of the position as you play your moves, accounting for transpositions), or by going to the analysis view of any game, and clicking on the "Book" icon below the moves list.
Clicking on the "Gear" icon in the top corner of the Opening Explorer will reveal the filter settings that you can use to narrow down your game searches. These settings allow you to switch between surfing the greatest games played by chess masters or Lichess games around your level and pace.
As the position on the board changes, the Opening Explorer will update to show popular moves. Additional information such as average player rating (appears on hover), the number of times the position has been reached, and the game result distributions are all on display.
As you know, Lichess is an open source project. This feature couldn't possibly be completed without the incredible contributions made by our awesome development community.A very special thanks goes to revoof (niklasf on github), who built the Opening Explorer server. This guy is a kick-ass developer, few people could have done what he did here. The implementation is plain awesome, allowing millions and millions of games, and support for chess variants. This might be the first Crazyhouse opening explorer online!
While you are ready to explore all the Opening Explorer has to offer, consider to chip in for what major feature you would like to see on Lichess next! While this poll is not binding, it will give us a good idea of the views of the community.
It really is a great benefit. Unfortunately, it hasn't worked properly for at least three years since the servers got overwhelmed by the number of games being played and then they fell tens of millions of games behind... If you search old forum threads, you can see that staff has made various attempts to remedy this situation (through adding additional servers, etc.), but to date none have really worked. I believe that the "online games" (correspondence chess) are more caught up. However, it seems that they have made a little progress recently with live chess games.
Somehow my 5200 live blitz games got loaded several months ago. The ability to sort out your record by opening and result is priceless. I have discovered several flaws in my opening play that were probably contributing to some losses. ( In particular, I had a dismal record playing the Alapin.)
I am pleased that my own games got loaded. However, it seems like most people, even premium members and long-time members, haven't had their live games loaded yet. No member of staff has come on to the forum recently to give an update of their progress.
We were talking about game explorer, which shows you move by move what masters have played in various games and their results but it is also supposed to give you a way to look at all the games you have played, by opening and result:
Well, that's what I'm talking about too. You can see all the master games. And I know I can view my own games with the explorer, but I've only done it on the computer. That, I don't know how to do on my phone.
The origin of this thread was the complaint of the gold member who couldn't use the Game Explorer on his app. And I said, well, that's not surprising, you're not supposed to receive this benefit as a gold member, on an app or on a desktop. You have to be a platinum or diamond member.
These statistics show that you have lost more than 61% of the 44 games where your opponent opened with e4 and nearly 73% of the 22 games where your opponent opened with d4. And you also have losing records against 1. c4, 1. Nf3 and 1. f4. In fact, the only opening you have done well against is 1. d3.
Don't you want to know why? I know why. You can drill down move by move and see where your moves got you into trouble. I'd consider upgrading from a gold to platinum just to get more of this information.
Too bad this discussion is in the Premium Members forum. Most people can't see it (Unless that's no longer a benefit for premium members...) I wish more people would make fixing the Game Explorer a priority.
