This tutorial teaches you how to randomize a Pokmon ROM on your Windows- or Mac-based emulator. You'll use the Universal Randomizer program for any Pokmon game on any computer for generations one through five, but only Windows users can randomize generations six and seven by using the PK3DS randomizer.
You can only randomize a Pokmon game if you have a ROM and emulator. Install the emulator of your choice and download a Universal Randomizer. Extract the randomizer file and open it in your ROM before running the game.
The option to randomize will only appear at the start of the game if you already have an existing save file. This is to encourage you to start with Classic mode. Classic mode encounters will often have more custom sprites made by members of the community, and has certain rewards and events that cannot be accessed with randomized mode.
To randomize a game that is in progress or change any randomization settings, you need to speak with the Update Man. He wears a black suit and can be found in any Pokmon Center, often upstairs. note that randomization is permanent. the man in black cannot un-randomize your game, only randomize it again.
For example, if a stats range of 50 is chosen for wild Pokmon, a Pokmon like Rattata which has a total base stats of 253, will be randomized by any Pokmon that has a base stats total between 203 and 303.
Regular trainers are randomized at the start of the game and will keep the same team random team when rematched, whereas gym trainers and gym leaders are randomized before battling them and will have different teams if you lose against them and rematch them. This is made to minimize the chances of being unable to progress due to not being able to defeat a Gym Leader.
Gym trainers and gym leaders all use Pokmon of the same type. If the "Gym types" option is selected, each gym will be assigned a random type. If the option is disabled, gyms will keep their original types, but the Pokmon used by the trainers will still be randomized to other Pokmon of that type.
If these options are selected, every item and/or TMs will be randomized. The items are randomized whenever the player picks up an item ball, which means that it is possible to obtain a different item or TM by resetting the game.
This randomizer randomizes...
- ... all NPCs on the overworld (with matching portraits and names; additional portraits are downloaded from the PMDCollab Sprite Repository)
- ... all dungeon layouts (including tilesets, music, weather, darkness, traps, items, Pokmon spawns, etc.)
- ... Pokmon moves, types, abilities
- ... boss fights matching the NPCs and boss fight layouts
- ... chapter names and location names.
- ... if wanted: all text in the game.
I wanted to like this, I've seen it in action and it looks so fun! And I saw it had an android option, super cool! You have to use 1.3.2 for Android, which is fine I was okay with being a version behind.
Exactly what it says it is -- a randomizer for Explorers of Sky. It has all of the basic functions you'd expect (item, dungeon, pokemon, and move randomization), and development is very active, so I'd expect more in the future!
Really good for experienced players who is hungry for a challenge especially if you go full on random (making it really hard to find healing items.) You'll really need escape orb, storage, kecleon shop, and the bank than ever since you will faint in a dungeon more often and I mean it. Also a little fun on the side that npcs can be randomized too that may bring in hilarious results.
The only gripe I have is one room monster houses, but thats just a nitpick since you can easily not randomize rooms and the randomizer only worked on my pc while the mac refuse to open the generator.
This really keep me on my toes unlike my regular play through. It's truly a mystery what will happen.
I really like the randomizer! Especially with all the overworld sprites being random it's all very silly. Will there be a way to randomize the boss fights in the future and the escort pokemon like Grovyle?
Loved the randomizer, and loved playing through the storymode, unfortunately my game's freezing after beating primal dialga, during the cutscene where my partner goes to the beach. Not sure what's causing the problem
This randomizer is really good especially in version 1.0.7 you can randomised everything (except Aegis Cave for sure) but one thing was bother me. Why some portraits are not accurate especially all alternate form like unown (b-z and !?), Castform (hail, rain, and sunny), Deoxys (Attack, Defense, and Speed), burmy, wombordam, shellos, gastrodon, giratina (origin), shaymin (sky), and female form (like Swallot, gible, sneasel, etc). Other than that, this is really amazing randomizer for challenger.
I have had zero issues with this version, and have had a ton of fun messing with the different randomization settings! it does get marked as a trojan, but i can confirm it's a false positive, i've had the randomizer downloaded for over a month now without any problems. completely recommend downloading this if you're interested :)
Needed to update my old review to reflect the great changes, and additions that have come to the program in time! There's plenty more options, and almost all the major bugs have been fixed! Fantastic program!
The randomizer doesn't convert properly, maybe it's something i did but i don't know. I put in the .nds file into the game and randomize it and it comes out as an unplayable File type, is there anyway to get it to convert into a .nds file so i can actually play my randomized copy?
Yo , here is my thought about the random battle mode.
1st: I dont get why we have a random battle mode in a MMO game. There is absolutly no reason to add a mode like that in that kind of game since in a MMO the main things we do is : farming ressource to get stuff to get better ressource/money to upgrade stuff or buy new things or organize new event.... or here in this mode you can litteraly create an account rush 4st gym and just spam random battle. It reduce the lifespan of the game a lot.
2nd (on the pvp side) : it will just kill small tier like UU NU and Dubs. New player wont spent time and money on building a competitive team in these tier they find "fun" to play ladder or tournament since they can just go in random battle without haveing 1 single comp and just spam it like it is the real pvp of pokemmo. Only OU and maybe dubs will survive in some month. Also why deleting LC to add this ? lc had better sens to be in pokemmo than random battle.
3rd: (on the non-pvp side) : the reward in random battle is meh (worse than in normal pvp ranked where they are already bad. Non-pvp player are waiting for other things than a random battle mode such as legendaries and/or dongeon or even Johto (even if it's useless).
about the mode itself :
-i have the feeling rng got boosted in this mode
-some matchup are litteraly impossible to win (azumarill bellydrum vs no water resistance xd)
-rewards lol
feel free to share your feeling about this
I agree 100% with this post. If you are a PvP player, the whole point of the game is that you build your pokemon yourself. Now the players that will continue playing this way will have a way harder time finding a match. At this point just play showdown lol.
Last point, randbats are obviously unbalanced and you can't always expect to have "fair" match-ups, but in my opinion there are way too many eviolite/NFE pokemon and choice item users. Also the leveling seems a bit off, but this is probably gonna be fixed/adjusted with time, so it is not as important.
3rd: (on the non-pvp side) : the reward in random battle is meh (worse than in normal pvp ranked where they are already bad. Non-pvp player are waiting for other things than a random battle mode such as legendaries and/or dongeon or even Johto (even if it's useless).
i play random battles for fast and fun gameplay but when i play mmo its slow paced and i can only play 1 game at the time unlike showdown where i can start multiple games i don't see the reason why you guys put so much effort in somthing that died in few months the whole community wante h.a or jotho not randbats
1, Because it's fun. And who are you to tell people on how to enjoy MMOs? I've played MMOs where the whole point is role-playing Just because people aren't farming then they're playing the game wrong? And how does the random battle reduce the lifespan of the game? A game which is already 7 years old, mind you. Yeah, new players interested in the mode would just make an account and play it and eventually quit, but what about old players? They play for a bit then what? They'll quit too? Hell no, they're just going to go back to whatever they were doing before the update, whether that's farming shinies or PvP or just socializing. This update isn't going to kill the game.
Random battles is a great way for players who are interested in PvP but don't want to invest time and money on making a competitive team. You think that's a bad thing but it really isn't. Not everyone wants to spend 400k-600k per pokemon on making a comp team. And if they want a new team? They gotta spend more money.
