Color themes for Eclipse. This is a new third-party listing of this plugin because the original listing had an incorrect update site URL and was recently removed, and it hasn't seen any update from the project's original authors.

I am using the native "Dark" theme in Eclipse Luna and then using the Eclipse Color Theme plugin to pick some different editor themes. The issue is that every time I open up Eclipse it is using the defaults that come with the native Dark theme and I have to go and set my Color Theme for the editors every time.

@djgeary @jdeyton Try enabling Oomph preferences recorder in Eclipse Mars settings (icon in settings window at bottom part of the screen, near help icon). After that set theme and that it. Next time you launch eclipse Oomph should restore correct theme settings.

Finally got mine to remember syntax coloring. All I had to do was make some changes, click export (export all), then re-import the .epf file. Not sure why this worked for me but hope someone finds it helpful.

Nothing from here works for me. I even deleted the workspace and created new one.The only thing i kept was the git archive containing the eclipse project files and the java stuff. And still after a restart the first 30s it seems as if it works. Then suddently the colors in the editor changes AND the content of the org.eclipse.e4.ui.css.swt.theme file changes the theme to "...default:" with some numbers at the end.

I install in via the Eclipse Marketplace, I drop a .xml file theme into the "dropins" directory in eclipse directory located on my hard drive, select window->prefrences->general->apperence->??? where is "Color Themes"? It's just not there!

Historically, eclipse has been designed to be able to modify itself in place, and you will be running into trouble every now and then, when your installation cannot do that and you didn't point it to a writable configuration area via eclipse.ini settings.

On the left sidebar, follow the following dropdown: General > Appearance > Color Theme. This will take you to the next panel, where all the themes are available. All you have to do now is select the theme you want.

Oblivion is a predominantly lime green color theme for Eclipse, with specks of blue and red for highlights. This Eclipse theme and its color application are split between variable types and method-related parameters. Oblivion is a dark coding theme by Roger Dudler and is the most popular color theme on Eclipse, with over 600,000 downloads.

Obsidian is similar to Oblivion with its green predominance. However, Obsidian approaches Eclipse color theming with a softer palette, leering on the pastel side. This makes it not as bright as Oblivion, which can be good if you prefer muted tones.

Vibrant Ink is a color theme that balances creating a hierarchy of data types with aesthetically bold schemes. It is a dark theme with high contrast for maximum focus, with lime green highlights for easy variable scanning.

When it comes to dark themes, they come in all shades of darkness. NightLion Aptana is a dark theme that is ported over to Eclipse IDE. The color palette is a series of calming blues that gently transitions into green tones.

If you like pumpkin spice, the Retta is the color theme for you. Set against a dark black background, the different shades of orange exude a funky fall vibe. Retta is also a fun theme that keeps everything tightly highlighted within the same color spectrum, apart from the seasonal feel. Unlike other themes listed here, the color transition is not as stark. This increases your ability to immerse yourself into the flow state of coding.

Inkpot is a pleasant dark blue theme with slightly over 33k downloads. This color theme is a series of blues and light salmon pink highlights for variable assignments. The colors in this theme are limited to just class, interface, method, methodDeclartion, number, string, operator, and annotations. The palette is tightly centralized and only highlights large blocks rather than every possible variation. Through this, Inkpot can localize information and create groupings through color.

I am using eclipse color theme plugin to have a dark background. ( ). The plugin works really great. One problem I have is that dark backgrounds look terrible with eclipse's comparison editor. For example, added lines have a dark blue highlight, which does not show up well at all on dark back grounds. Does anyone have a solution for this?

I am working with CCS Version: 6.2.0.00050, I like dark color development environments (obviously !) so I switched to CCS dark theme but I do not like the default styles it comes with (too colorful for me). So I installed Eclipse Color Theme plugin and chose another theme "Gedit Original Oblivion".

Till now everything is good, the problem is that when i close CCS and reopen I need to go the preferences each time and set the theme again. The dark color is still set but I need to go and re-apply the theme i want to change the syntac colors. The weird thing is that when I open the preferences page above I can see that my option is highlighted "Gedit Original Oblivion" but I need to hit apply to make it work.

I know that this might be a problem with eclipse itself and not related to CCS direclty. But in my standard eclipse cdt installation I have Oomph bundled with it. Oomph offers a workaround/fix for this issue with the preference recorder feature. Any idea how I can emulate this using CCS ?

First time on this sub and I'm fairly new to programming in general so I'm not sure how many of you are aware of the eclipse color theme plugin. I'm not really sure if this is a bug or just something that hasn't yet been added but is there a way for the color theme's in the plugin to override some of the built-in eclipse dark mode settings? I can see in the image preview of the themes in the plugin that the terminal and console are meant to be different colors, but I'm stuck with the boring, built-in dark mode gray. anyway to get the plugin to override those settings?

Can you attach a screenshot with invalid colors? Unfortunately, Eclipse (and Nsight) is known to have some issue with Ubuntu theme as Ubuntu does not always provide proper colors when ask for system colors.

I have High Contrast mode enabled in Windows 10. In Eclipse (Oxygen 2), the text is way too dark and I'm unable to change the Eclipse theme as it is locked as High Contrast whenever I have High Contrast enabled in Windows.

Found a solution: I installed the Color Theme plugin for Eclipse. After enabling High Contrast in Windows, I was able to select & apply a theme from Color Theme and it overrode the default High Contrast setting.

I have modified my eclipse colour theme to my liking but just cant seem to develop in peace because I keep having to squint and stare at the screen for certain elements. The colour default scheme is simply pathetic!

Those can be found at the annotations (the blog post has details on getting to those). It's the "Debug Call Stack" and "Debug Current Instruction Pointer" -- I'm going to update the post so that the post so that the theme has those as "Dashed Box" and "Box" (instead of highlighted)

nice...i like the theme...just one problem...the highlighting foreground color on my system was black and with the background being dark blue it was impossible to read what I was highlighting...I set the selection foreground color to white and looks great

Hi Chris,

Regarding the package explorer, that's an issue in the moonrise theme (actually, it's an issue on SWT/windows OS which the moonrise theme exposes).

Eclipse 4.4 (still release candidate) also integrated a dark theme but it has the same issue...

I think that if you're on windows the only thing that'll work properly is LiClipse:

i.e.: in LiClipse besides applying the theme with a new background I create a custom painter to overcome that... see: -and-dark-theme-shortcomings.html for more details on what LiClipse does that the default themes don't -- and for which I've already reported issues on Eclipse itself.

Plug-ins that use other colors may also provide preference entries to allow them to be customized. For example, the searching support provides a preference for controlling the color used to display potential matches (see the Foreground color for potential matches item on the General > Search preference page).

In general, the Workbench uses the colors that are chosen by the operating system. To change these colors you can use the configuration tools provided by the system (for example, the Display Properties control panel on Windows, or the .Xdefaults file in Motif).

To be honest, I never used color theme in Eclipse before until recently I saw it on one of my colleagues macbook. I looked from little far and it was amazing, the theme he chose was saw pleasant to eye.

So far I have performed so many Eclipse optimization like increase memory usage in Eclipse, configure Bitbucket and Eclipse, etc. But last week I tried installing Eclipse color theme at my end and so far loving it. I would suggest you to give it a try. Here are detailed steps on how to set it up correct way.

Eclipse is one of the most used and popular IDE among developers. It has out of box features and functions that stand it out from other IDEs. There are various factors that influence our ability to code effectively and efficiently. From AI-driven code completion assistance to a plethora of the most useful plugins, one feature that many developers often overlook is the Eclipse editor's theme they use. In this section, we will learn how to change the color theme in eclipse IDE.

Step 4: In the Name field write the Eclipse Color theme and, in the Location, field type the URL -color-theme.github.io/update. After that, click on the Add button.

Step 12: Select any of the color themes (listed above) and then click on the Apply button. At last click on the Apply and Close button. In our case, we have selected a Pastel color theme. It looks like the following.
