It was not until the threat of a strike in 1957 and Cousy meeting with AFL-CIO officials over possible union affiliation, that the NBA entered into discussions with the NBPA. In April of 1957, the NBA Board of Governors formally recognized the NBPA and agreed to their requests:
The great Oscar Robertson of Cincinnati succeeded Heinsohn as President in 1965 and announced at the 1967 All-Star Game that the players would seek new terms; specifically, they would ask the owners to be paid for exhibition games, to reduce the number of exhibition games from 15 to 10, and to upgrade the pension plan. The players won the following agreement:
In 1983, the players agreed to a landmark four-year collective bargaining agreement. The lynchpin of the deal was a revenue sharing/salary cap concept, under which the owners would guarantee the players a percentage of every dollar they earned, and the players in return agreed that each team would be subject to a soft cap on the amount of salaries it would pay to the players. The owners also provided:
Michele Roberts was re-elected as Executive Director of the National Basketball Players Association (NBPA) at the 2018 annual summer meeting of the Board of NBA Player Representatives. The Board of Player Representatives and the Executive Committee voted unanimously to approve another 4-year term for Ms. Roberts.
The Players Alliance is where we as black professional players commit to owning and supporting solutions to increase the participation of our beloved community in baseball. We do this because our representation is important to both the community and the game.
We believe our experiences (both success and failure) in the game of baseball uniquely qualify us to transition from players of a game, to owners of desired solutions to increase the presence and involvement of African Americans
We are committed to advocating for thoughtful interventions and protective guidance for players and their families to combat the special vulnerabilities and pitfalls found in the journey towards and within professional play
The Annual Average Guaranteed Compensation (Guaranteed Comp) number includes a player's base salary and all signing and guaranteed bonuses annualized over the term of the player's contract, including option years.
The Average Annual Guaranteed Compensation figure also includes any marketing bonus and any agent's fees, both annualized over the term of the contract. The Average Annual Guaranteed Compensation figure does not include Performance Bonuses because there is no guarantee that the player will hit those bonuses.
The Average Base Salary for Senior Roster Non-Designated Players is calculated by sorting the Roster Category to include only players in the Senior Roster Category (No DP, No Supplemental, No Supplemental Reserve) and calculating the Average of the base salaries of Senior Roster Category players.
The league allows each club to acquire up to three players whose total compensation and acquisition costs exceed the maximum budget charge. Clubs are responsible for any amount exceeding the respective DP's budget charge. The rule was first introduced in 2007 in order to give clubs more flexibility to sign lucrative deals with marquee players.
Players on the Supplemental and Reserve Roster are "off budget." There are two kinds of Supplemental Roster players: Those occupying roster spots 21-24 who must earn at least the Senior Minimum, and those occupying roster spots 25-30 who may earn the Reserve Minimum, but must be 25 years old or younger. Spots 29 and 30 are limited to Homegrown players.
If a team has fewer than seven players because one or more players has deliberately left the field of play, the referee is not obliged to stop play and the advantage may be played, but the match must not resume after the ball has gone out of play if a team does not have the minimum number of seven players.
If the competition rules state that all players and substitutes must be named before kick-off and a team starts a match with fewer than eleven players, only the players and substitutes named on the team list may take part in the match upon their arrival.
*Where both teams make a substitution at the same time, this will count as a used substitution opportunity for both teams. Multiple substitutions (and requests) by a team during the same stoppage in play count as one used substitution opportunity.
The substitution is completed when a substitute enters the field of play; from that moment, the replaced player becomes a substituted player and the substitute becomes a player and can take any restart.
If a substitution is made during the half-time interval or before extra time, the procedure must be completed before the match restarts. If the referee is not informed, the named substitute may continue to play, no disciplinary action is taken and the matter is reported to the appropriate authorities.
cautions both players when the ball is next out of play but not if the change occurred during half-time (including half-time of extra time) or the period between the end of the match and the start of extra time and/or penalties (penalty shoot-out)
The coach and other officials named on the team list (with the exception of players or substitutes) are team officials. Anyone not named on the team list as a player, substitute or team official is an outside agent.
If a ball is going into the goal and the interference does not prevent a defending player playing the ball, the goal is awarded if the ball enters the goal (even if contact was made with the ball) unless the interference was by the attacking team.
If, after a goal is scored and play has restarted, the referee realises an extra person was on the field of play when the goal was scored, the goal cannot be disallowed. If the extra person is still on the field the referee must:
Each team must have a captain on the field of play who wears an identifying armband. The team captain has no special status or privileges but has a degree of responsibility for the behaviour of the team.
You love lacrosse. We love lacrosse. We want you to love other things as well. The growth of lacrosse has created more opportunities to play the sport year-round, but USA Lacrosse strongly advocates that young players continue to pursue playing other sports as well. Research has shown that early specialization can lead to overuse injuries and burnout, and there are many lessons and skills to be learned from other sports.
A recent United States Olympic Committee survey of athletes that competed for the United States in the Olympics found that not only did they participate in multiple sports when they were younger, but they continued playing multiple sports through their teens.
