Tendulkar targets 15,000 Test runs; wants to win 2011 World Cup

Indian batting maestro has lped all retirement speculations to rest by saying that he wants to win the World Cup in 2011, when the mega-tournament will be played in India, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh. He also said that one of his other targets is to score 15,000 Test runs.

In an interview with the Wisden Cricketer, Tendulkar also said he disagrees with former Australian coach John Buchanan's assessment that he had become susceptible to the short ball early in his innings because of a lack of footwork. "It is only his opinion; John Buchanan doesn't have to be right all the time. If I couldn't handle short deliveries, then I wouldn't still be scoring runs," he said.

On a question regarding which batsman comes closest to his batting style, Tendulkar said "Virender Sehwag comes closest to my batting style."

Tendulkar, who is now 36-years-old, said that though he can still do what he did when he was 25, his though process has had to change because of the changes in his body. "I have had to change how I think, which is about taking less risk," Tendulkar said in the interview.

Tendulkar, who has scored 12,733 runs at an average of 54.58 from 159 matches also said that another of his targets before retiring is to score 15,000 Test runs. "Sunil Gavaskar has told me that I have to get to 15,000 runs. He said he would be angry with me and would come and catch me if I didn't," Tendulkar said.

Tendulkar also stated that though he is not thinking about retirement at this point, he would know the time to call it quits. Tendulkar, however, admitted that as cricket has been a part of his whole adult life, life after quitting the game wouldn't be easy.
