Hi All,

You may be wondering why there are no times in your brevet card.

They put the times on the back of the card this year, and they are your times.

The PBP organizers have been making lots of small improvements this year!

I'm not sure about their calculation algorithm.

For example, my departure is Sunday 21:00, 90 hour.
Loudeac is at 435 and 782 kms
RUSA calculation closing time is 2:00 am and 4:56 am
Brevet card closing time for Loudeac is 00:44 and 4:10
If I subtract the excess 19km from 435 and calculate Loudeac at 416km out of 1200, I get 00:44, so that's their outbound method.
It looks like there's some pro-rating going on with the inbound calculation.

Dave.

Warning:  Rando-nerdery ahead.

Dave,

I've spent a lot of time looking at these numbers for the Garmin control close calculator.

The rule seems to be 15kph-ish outbound ( 40 out ) 12kph inbound ( 50 back ).

On top of that, there seems to be some minor adjustments for terrain, ie: "Give the riders a little more time for Gouarec to Loudeac". The end result is that the control close times don't have that nice mathematical certainty that you would expect from a RUSA or ACP ( Non-PBP) Event. Villaines is inbound at 1019km, which would be about 76-something on an ACP 1000k event, but is about three hours earlier on PBP.

You can see the details of the PBP schedule vs the RUSA/ACP Brevet rules here in the 90h page -

The general trend is that outbound PBP times are pretty close to what you're used to, but deadlines are earlier on the inbound leg - at the 1000k point the control closes about 3h before what would expect on an American event, and then they give you more time, with the finish about 88 minutes earlier than an American event.

So you are expected to ride a 72h 1000k, and do 1200k in 88:30.  Make of that what you will.

They've done nice job on the cards this year.  It's good to have your start-wave specific times on the card.

( I've been a little fast and loose with "Whose rules are whose".  I apologize for that  )
