For those of you who might be interested.  Hamid and I did the first Mile Failte in 2014 and had a blast.  Dave Thompson

2nd Dave's comment, we loved the Mile Failte although I am not sure whether it is the same route next year but I am sure it will be great.

Next year June LRM calendar is crazy :-) and we don't know all the events yet.

June 14 - Midnight Sun
June 18 - Mile Failte
June 20 - Alpi4000

I am very interested! How rainy was the ride...was it like PBP 2007?

Zero rain and warm. Highly unusual.

Dave & Hamid,

Any impressions of the roads overall? I grew up in Ireland but this was prior to getting more seriously into cycling, and my experiences are basically limited to short rides as a teenager and undergrad. I have some concerns about how narrow and windy the roads there are, especially if more high-traffic. I also know that the Irish cycling community is large, and has lots of events (which would imply ok infrastructure). Curious about opinions on this from US-based riders!

Road kill is larger in Ireland!  Watch out for sheep as you turn corners!

Seriously, It will be 12 years since Hamid and I did this ride in 2014.  We had wonderful weather - sunny for four days.  We were following a Garmin track so we were able to make our way through some of the farm roads which created problems for those riding with cue sheets, as I found out afterwards.

I don't recall having issues with traffic or road conditions.  Randonnesia has set in.  Some of the roads might have been a little rough but anyone who has cycled in the UK, Italy ... to name a couple ... knows that roads will have rough spots over 1200k.  There were narrow roads, tourist bus traffic around the Ring of Kerry, for example, but no significant issues even on the tourist heavy roads.  I'm sure that a lot has changed in 12 years and likely the route has changed as well.

Dave.

Dave is spot on :-) we had so much fun and enjoying the scenery than remembering the road conditions :-)

I think that it is not exactly the same route. I am planning for Alpi4000 otherwise I would 100% be planning for

Mile Failte. Dave & I spoke about what our favorite events are throughout the years and Mile Failte & Alpi4000 are always on the top of our list.

BTW, for the folks that they do not know, Mile Failte means "a hundred thousand welcomes" :-)

Hamid

I don’t want to rain on anybody’s parade but I contacted them about registration and they told me it’s full. Including the email replied they sent:
