Hi folks,

There's another fun website feature! Now you can visualize all the American Explorer locations you've visited on an interactive map. By default it plots the locations that you've claimed via the American Explorer award, and there's a toggle to include unclaimed credit (if you don't have 10 locations yet, or if there are some pending credit discrepancies).

If you want to go on a state hunting expedition with other RUSA members, you can also plot multiple people together to get a visual sense of what would benefit the group as a whole.

The tool is linked from the American Explorer details page and from the awardees list.
You can access it directly here: https://rusa.org/cgi-bin/amex_chart_PF.pl

Cheers,
Charlie, on behalf of the web team

Love it. Just one accessibility feedback: unless you have the URL, the navigation to find it on the webpage was awkward for me. Maybe you can place the link more prominently in the details page. Perhaps place it at the top or at least separated by a paragraph and say something like  "You can visualize visited locations on an interactive map (link)." or something even better than that so people see that there is a link. (I have vision problems and have my phone on greyscale, and it took me ages to find the text I needed to click to get to it.)

Thank you for the great addition to the webpage.

VERY COOL Charlie and team!
I do see a typo on my account. Where would I direct that inquiry?
Best,
RR

Just one accessibility feedback: ...

Thanks Iwan, I'll see if I can find a better spot for the link.

I do see a typo on my account. Where would I direct that inquiry?

Richard, it depends what the issue is. If your visited location data is off, then the place to file an inquiry is from the AmEx award application page. At the bottom of the page there's a listing of all your results, with a "dispute" link next to each one that you can use if the credited locations for that result do not match your expectations. Disputes get triaged to a team of volunteers who will investigate and figure out the right fix. If the issue is instead related to code or page content, then Bugzilla is the right place to file that.

As an aside, the "disputes" feature is the reason that AmEx credit is not awarded automatically. By submitting the award application, the website takes that as an affirmation that the member visited the newly claimed locations. RUSA data has lots of errors, particularly for AmEx. It's perhaps the most unique award, but also the messiest to maintain.

I noticed when I looked at my map that the little side bar that shows extra credit is overlapping a bit of the northeast. Certainly that could be fixed or that box can be suppressed.

Thanks everyone for the feedback. I've filed bug 1204 to track what's been mentioned and I'll explore solutions when I catch some free cycles. If there are any further requests, please add them there.
