Dave and others,
A 1000k brevet in Ohio is a definite possibility but I would require some assistance in organizing,
designing the route and most of all a commitment of more than a few riders to participate n the
event. In order to be used for R5000 requirements it must be an ACP sanctioned event. This means
that it must be submitted by an RBA for placement on next year's calendar by October 1, 2005. Even
if operated as a "budget" event with unmanned controls there is a significant expense in designing
the route, checking roads for biking compatibility, arranging suitable controls and certifying
distances. In short, it's a lot a work for only a few riders. Our organization does not really have
the manpower to do a full service 1000k and many riders may not be comfortable doing an unsupported
event of this distance. If we can get an idea of the number of people that would consider
participating in a 1000k brevet in Ohio we could possibly entertain the notion for 2006.
Feedback requested.

Hey,
Is anyone in Ohio interested in organizing or riding a 1000km brevet
next year? I'm not planning to do any 1200km randonnees due to the
possibility of riding the Trans-Am Classic, but I would like to do a
1000km, for fun and training, and for the R5000 award.
Due to the distance and logistics it would probably be totally self-
supported. I don't know what all is involved in getting ACP
certification and such but I would be willing to do route planning
and scouting. A likely route would be a double diagonal of the state
(Cincinnati-Conneaut-Cincinnati) or possibly a loop route (Cleveland-
Marietta-Cincinnati-Sandusky-Cleveland).
Failing this I will probably go to Toronto to ride Toronto-Ottawa-
Toronto or the Lake Ontario 1000km, or maybe to Seattle to ride the
SIR 1000k or Vancouver-Vancouver-Vancouver, but it would be cool to
have something a little bit closer to home!
