Subject: Garmin Tacx Neo Bike Plus

Hi all,
Anyone familiar with Garmin’s smart bike and willing to share info?  I’m finally heading into the 2000s as I look to finally get a smarter-than-me bike.   Thought I’d decided on the Wahoo Kickr Shift but I’m such a Garmin Girl :)

Garmin has some drawbacks like way heavier and no wheels to move it.  Plus I have more minds that I can pick about the Wahoo.  Would appreciate any input or opinions… on or off list.

Many thanks

I've been using a smart trainer for a bit over 6 years now - typically around 300 hours a year. I've always had a dedicated bike permanently mounted on the trainer. I got about 5 years use out of the Wahoo Kickr - it didn't die, but there was a rare odd wobble in the cassette that I couldn't diagnose, so I finally switched to the Elite Directo XRT. Both have been fine - the latter at 1/3 the price.  In my case, having a trainer rather than something like the Garmin Smart Bike was a godsend when I switched to riding recumbents. Even my front wheel drive recumbent works on the smart trainer.
After a couple months I 99% love the Kickr Shift (I didn't waste time installing their cog - no reason to.). My only complaint is that I'm still a little fuzzy about exactly when to "click it" when starting up, and sometimes I end up with virtual gears that are too easy.

Thanks Ronald,  I've been using a trainer for almost 30 years and am tired of putting my bike on/off.  Yes, I am started the process for a new bike, but "right now" I think a smart bike vs smart trainer is more what I'm looking for...I can change my mind :)

If you're back on a smart bike  (Kickr Shift), I hope it works out!  One reason for my original thinking on the Kickr Shift is having more people to help me learn, including my LBS, so I can ask questions just like your about "when to click it."

Thanks for your feedback.
