Definitely sad news. My thoughts go out to everyone affected by this.
Sadly, it is this kind of email that forces me to make the difficult decision to leave this group. But I hate to leave without an explanation.
As I said, it's sad news. But in my humble opinion, it doesn't help the spirit/enthusiasm of a bicycling group to announce _how_ someone has died, especially when the way they died was doing something I love (and hopefully they loved) to do. In my opinion, it would have been enough to mention the person's passing and anyone that wanted more information could have pursued it. But announcing that a bicyclist was injured or killed by a hit and run does nothing more than to inspire fear in doing something we love to do.
I'm sorry to be leaving this group, but I absolutely love the sport I have chosen and the last thing I need is to be questioning just how safe it is for me to do it. I understand that I'm at the mercy of the drivers and if I want to get involved in improving the safety for bicyclists, there are plenty of ways to do it. But I'm not going to let the bullies win - I intend to continue biking.
Thanks again for all the wonderful articles this group has brought. Best wishes in your future endeavors, whether it be on the bike or otherwise.
