Rob Hawks recently recommended searching blogs and their links to
other blogs as a good way to find ride reports and other information.
I agree, since that is how I discovered randonneuring. It may also be
helpful to have a centralized list. If there is reasonable interest,
I will complete this list and maintain it.
Thoughts? Better ideas?

And I'll take that as one 'yes' vote. :-)

I think that's a useful resource and I have bookmarked it.

Speaking more to the lists than the blogs, The problem with these clearing
houses for rando like 'Daily Randonneur' is that once someone finds out
their local list is being turbo-pumped out to all the rando-info addicts -
well, this is somewhat stifling to me, and am someone that has no problem
speaking up, so what about more shy people?
I just feel it's sort of a deterrent to local conversation, and for newbies
too, there's nowhere to ask on the side anymore, you have put yourself in
front of the rando world to ask a simple question. This is something
different than creating community, at least to me.
So, given the chance, I would vote the SF list be moved off the 'daily
randonneur, for more breathing room, and grassroots appeal.
And just mention there are already several rando blog clearing houses - like
the SIR site and SF, too.
But okay, knock yourselves out!
Happy new year!
Regards (a blog is an epithath - do it well)!

Are you talking about the list Andy just created, or mine & Jon
Gardner's "The Daily Randonneur" at http://thedailyrandonneur.wordpress.com/
?
Ours is not a clearing house for randonneur sites and blogs. It
focuses on our brevet and touring rides in the Washington, D.C. area
and Jon's rides in England. It does not 'turbo-pump' messages out from
other lists and sites. One can preview content at the links on the
main page (the list does not include the SF Randoneurs, just so you
know) -- but only those that have publicly available RSS feeds will
show the latest messages or entries; otherwise the preview shows
whatever page comes up at that link.
The best way to keep messages local is to simply restrict a list to
approved members. I also maintain the unofficial D.C. Randonneurs
list, which is open to anybody by signing up, but the messages are not
viewable. That was the wish of the DCR leadership when it was
created.
I like Andy's list.

To answer some private questions: I will focus on blogs that are
mostly rando-oriented and mostly non-commercial. I like ride reports,
photos, advice, reviews, etc. However, I will not exclude your blog
because it also discusses other topics or occasionally mentions the
bags, frames, or tours you sell.
Thanks much,
Andy

Yes, you! and 'Research Trailer Park,' too.

Yes, it is! It takes 2 seconds to link through to this list.

Yes, it does - just mouse down the right hand side of the page for
rando-voyeuring in New Jersey, Alaska...!

Yes, sorry, but 'Research Trailer Park.' does have us there, which
not entirely positive from my viewpoint.
All support to what you are doing but I can't get out to read these
blogs that much, and regret didn't peruse your post yday before
posting, so didn't have the freshest recall of your site, or really
which site it was - just remembered the name.

Yes, whatever thanks advice about lists of approved and vetted
bicyclists, or more correctly - computer use comportment stuff from
someone very into the info age. This kind of advice isn't typically
necessary in a computer forum, which sorry to advise.

Yes, nice to know your vote, but it doesn't count anyways - It has
already been proven that it is okay to hijack the term and concept
RUSA for other uses, so whatever. Not saying the new list is doing
something bad - the blogs are about bicycling, just state the
comparison.
This whole thread is about computer convenience, so felt it was a good
time to speak up.
Thank you!

I am now hitting delete on the remainder of this stream. Thank you very

I welcome additions, especially from under-represented states. Please
send me a note or post a comment to the blog list.
Enjoy reading, and share it with a potential rando.
Thanks,
Andy

An email name like "positronic shell" and he's calling others "computer
nerds"? I guess it does take one to know one... ;-)
Incidentally, I'm from the Washington area. I once went on a bike
weekend with the Philly club and I was shocked at the wine-and-cheese
conversation. No computer talk. No politics. It was all finance and
investments. How unfamiliar! I felt like I was living "The Gods Must
Be Crazy".
I hope this is a useful reference. New blogs are welcome.
