Heading out for a 400km on Saturday. During my bike
cleaning/inspection, I find that my rear Mavic A719's sidewalls are
noticeably dished from the brake pads.
The specs for this rim indicate a "wear indicator." Where is this
seen? What should I look for?
Thanks!

(p.s.: The front wheel has a different brand rim with a different history.)
The wear indicator is a small rectangular hole punched in the inside
of the rim. When your rim develops a small, rectangular hole in the
middle of the brake track, it is time for a replacement rim. I
personally replace both front and rear rims whenever my front rim
wears down more than 1.5mm compared to new.

I kept seeing references to it being an *internal* wear indicator, so
I've just removed the tire/tube/rimstrip a few minutes ago.
Sure enough, there's the pair of cutouts on either side of the inner
rim surface. On one side of my rim, there is the *slightest* spec of
a dot showing on the exterior braking surface. It isn't even a hole
yet -- it's as if it's about to be, but the material is thin enough to
give right at the center of the indicator.
Ok, I'm just going to mount the spare wheel for the brevet.
Thanks for your help, everyone!

Follow-up: it offered no resistance to a poke with a safety pin, and
now it's a ~1mm diameter hole.
