I recently sent this email to a friend who is preparing for his first PBP this summer and asked for advice about where to begin. I shared Greg's and my tips and collected so many wonderful items from our amazing randonneuring Google Groups!

#1 Tip, join the PBP_Prep group! 🤭

Dear...

Glad you are getting ready for the big event! It is most definitely not easier to ride PBP than to plan for it, never fear. Here are a few tips:

➡️ Join the PBP Prep Google Group. Everyone is super willing to share and help a fellow randonneur!
https://groups.google.com/g/pbp_prep

➡️ At this point, all hotels are booked in Rambouillet. You can also email the hotels near the start to get on their waiting lists. Many people who reserved a place will not be riding.

➡️ There are several AirBnBs, check out the local area. Post on the PBP Prep Google Group to see if anyone has room in their AirBnB.

➡️ There are French families who are offering French homestays here:
➡️ This is the local Rambouillet cyclotouring club that's organizing the program:
https://www.velo-ctr.org/

➡️ Since the ride does not begin until 5pm at the earliest on Sunday, it is easy to grab a taxi to the start that same day.

➡️ Attached is Tim Foon Feldman's 2023 PBP planning spreadsheet, it is amazing!

➡️ RUSA is offering a Bag Drop service at Loudéac this year. Fill out this form to get on the list:
➡️ Hotels in France will hold your suitcases for free while you ride. Greg and I are older and wiser, and we are renting our place for a week in Rambouillet so we don't have to pack up our stuff before the ride like in 2019 and 2015. Much easier on the soul if you are not packing the day of the big event.

➡️ Yes, you can ship your bike to your hotel in France.

➡️ I think it is cheaper to just pay the bike fee when you fly, but you risk your bike being lost en route. Greg and I are flying Air France and our bike is included for a low fee. Just shop around.

➡️ We do not use a travel agent, we prefer to book everything ourselves, but many randonneurs prefer to use a travel service.
