Hey there you wild and crazy folks! We've been rather busy lately so you
haven't seen much of me on these lists. But I have a little announcement.
We're getting out of the bicycle business. Well, we're getting out of
the bicycle part of the bicycle business. We're not going to be selling
bicycles any more. So, our remaining stock of frames and bikes has to
go, and the sooner the better.
So, all Rivendell Rambouillet and Atlantis frames as well as Rambouillet
bikes will be 12% off until they are gone or we reduce the price
further, whichever comes whenever. This only applies to frames and bikes
in stock, of which there aren't all that many. We won't be ordering any
more frames from the kind folks at Rivendell. And it applies to bikes,
of which we only have a few. It also applies to our one remaining
Co-Motion Americano touring bike, a 56cm, and our last tandem, a Mocha
Co-Pilot.
I won't be building any of the remaining frames up into bikes. But
bicycle kits with built wheels and most accessories will receive a 10%
discount when purchased with a frame, and I can install bottom brackets
and upgrade headsets in frames as usual. Pending bike sales are
unaffected except that any based on new frames will of course get the
reduced frame price.
There are no other changes. I'll continue building wheels and Linda will
continue to pack orders and bug me about getting the webcam working
again. And I'll still take care of any warrantee issues with past
bicycle sales. The conspiracy theorists will undoubtedly say that we're
only doing this because we have no more TA Zephyr triple cranksets to
put on bicycles. Well, that may be true, or it may not. But here's the
official story.
We're doing this because my arthritic back isn't getting any better. By
eliminating bikes from the mix I can spend less time hunched over
adjusting derailleurs and brakes. Every time I build up a bike I end up
with a horrendous back ache. In fact in the last six months the only
times I've had serious back pain is during and after I've built a bike
up. I don't want to hire anyone else to do mechanical work here so it's
as simple as that.
I'm not telling you all this because I'm looking for sympathy. When I'm
not building bikes my back usually feels quite good. So please don't
call or write with your favorite back remedy as it's not needed. I have
an exercise routine that keeps me in great shape and feeling good. I
just need to stop building bikes, that's all.
So, what do you think? Is it true, or...
