A little perspective goes along way in sorting out the nature of PBP and
the confusion among riders of "how to feel" about the "lead riders" lack
of recogntion from the ACP.
Perhaps, a reminder that a cycling event can be a "competition" and yet
-- "not a race".
Can all readers understand that each PBP rider decides how much
willpower, sweat and pain goes into their ride. And, respect those that
give more of themselves ---- as well as those that choose to give less?
Is it any wonder that those riders who chose to give the event their
"full measure" would want their effort to be publicly recognized?
Can not everyone appreciate and respect the dedication, of those who
through circumstance can only hope to finish the event in the time
alotted?
And what of the rest of the PBP peloton? The riders who chose a mix of
comfort and total-effort, are they not due recogntion in finsihing PBP
in good form and clean clothes?
So, there are no "winners or losers" in PBP, but there are those who
chose to ride with differing levels of effort and difficulty. I would
hope that most cyclists can respect all the riders efforts.
Congratulations to all PBP finishers.
Recognition of those riders who chose to ride PBP as fast as they could
should not be diminished. To the "lead six" - Great ride, what a great
effort, congratulations.
