I found that the response posted by RosalieAzizi was a good one.
The problem is that many of these atrocities happen under the guise of Islam. THIS IS NOT ISLAM. In the Middle East especially, most of the behaviors are CULTURAL and do not have any base in Islam although the perpetrators tend to justify it as such in order to lend their abhorrent behavior false legitimacy.
I quote an excerpt from the comment of RosalieAzizi : "

What bothers me is the WOMEN.... the mothers of these sick men - why do they not raise their sons with a sensitivity towards women? Are they that indoctrinated by lies that keep them subservient that they raise their sons to exhibit this kind of behavior?
