Karen and I are directing a Trail Half Marathon for our local runners club. It will be much like our October race. The race will start at the Mack Dick Pavilion.
Gates will open at 7am so everyone can get in early and entry is included in your race entry fee. It is a short 2 miles from the gate to the start but get there early as we will be using both the Pavilion Parking lot and the Amphitheater parking lot.
The race will be starting on and using the new Comanche Trail which will be about a mile and a half of fairly easy trail. From there you will spend about a mile climbing around 350 feet to the plateau level. There will be a few ravine crossings before descending down to the canyon floor around the 6 mile mark. From there the course will enter the trails on the canyon floor to return back to the Pavilion. You probably remember the trails along the floor as being some short steep hills to flat running.
The race will be on Sunday May 3, starting at 8am.
Registration is scheduled to open on March 1. We will likely limit the race to the first 250 to enter. We will be allowing paper entry as well as online entry but once the race is full, paper entries will be returned.
If we reach the 250 limit well in advance of the race we may add some space. There will be no race day entry and there will be an entry deadline of April 28th if we don't reach the 250 limit.
Entry to the canyon will be free for runners and guests from 7am to 7:30am with the race starting at 8am.
Scott and Dee Weaver will be cooking Hot Dogs for all. There will be three aid stations on course with a sports drink and water. Bring your own drinks for after the race and remember there is no public consumption of alcohol allowed.
We are planning to stop timing at four hours.
Hope to see you all in May. The Palo Duro Trail run 50 Mile and 50K registration is open now. The 20K registration will open July 1.
If you do this race, I would love to hear your feedback on the new portion of the trail. It is 6.5 miles of trail that we have built in the last year. We may add some of it to the Palo Duro Trail run if it is popular.
Be sure and tell your friends about the Half. Also, we are planning on adding a 100 miler to the Palo Duro Trail Run in October 2016.
