Hello everyone

We are a team working with Django looking for a project management
tool to replace Trac and another tool that we use and I really liked
Rancho. But I see that it's more focused on a "bureaucracy-free"
system. We have to manage milestones tasks and project details with
more accuracy, so I would like to know: This is somehow a goal for
rancho or is it planned to remain as simple as it is now? If it won't
evolve to become a more "enterprise friendly", I'm considering evolve
Rancho (probably on a separate project using rancho as a base) to fit
our (and perhaps other companies) needs on a more complex workflow.
So, the other question is, the general classes and APIs used on Rancho
are stable enough to work on top of it?

Thanks in advance,

Simplicity of use is indeed one of our base ideas for Rancho, another base idea is power.

This means Rancho is intended to balance power and simplicity.
Now I know this sounds like a slogan but it really is not. If we feel that some functionality won't benefit many users as it may compromise Rancho's usability for many more, it might not be added. On the other hand, features that are requested by a considerable number of users should be added even if it will sacrifice a little bit of Rancho's usability.

But to answer your question more effectively, let us know in detail about the features you're talking about and we can discuss about them.

In our opinion, "enterprise friendly" really depends on the enterprise definition here. For example, big corporations might use a number of project management tools, from gantt charts to burn down graphs but adding them all would scare many people for sure.

About the API. We think that even with a short SVN history, we got already a good number of clients that are happy and satisfied.
Of course, since Rancho is Free and Open Source Software, any bug found is likely to be squashed in little time.

Best regards,
