Hello Bean Buddies,

We hope everyone is doing amazing! We are having some issues with our Google group, and we're planning on transitioning to Facebook. Would Facebook be better, and do everyone have access to Facebook?
We're also open to new ideas.

Best,
Retail Staff

I'd rather not do anything on Facebook. The way private information leaks on Facebook is very concerning to me.

Facebook is a good option for me.  Easier to share pictures and scroll.

Our 1/10 acre of beans is going great!  13 varieties are going, mostly strong!  Students helped plant all of the beans on June 21 at Dingle Elementary, in Woodland, CA.  We anticipate harvesting in Mid-Sept.  We will have UCD Dry Bean Researchers help with the harvest!  We are also hoping to incorporate a field trip to a bean facility or farm.
Thank you again for the donation!

I prefer facebook to google groups. Just for ease of use and only having to open one thing. It is much easier to see information and follow threads there also IMO.

Facebook is ideal for groups and I think it’s a great idea.  It’s easy to keep a simple profile without personal information on Facebook and frankly they aren’t doing anything that Google isn’t already doing too.

Google groups are pretty clunky and a new format is very welcome!

I don’t use Facebook.

Here in my garden in southeast Michigan all the seeds germinated well, but I didn’t plant them until the second week of June, after the bulk of the cool weather was over.  Except for what the animals ate—most of the Azufrado, unfortunately—the plants are doing well, and pods have formed.  We’ve had terrific rain, of course, and temps anywhere from the 50s to the 100s this summer. Because of the late start, though, I don’t imagine I’ll be harvesting dried beans till mid or late September, though of course I could pick them as shelling beans earlier.  I have grown Tiger’s Eye, flageolet, and Calypso beans before, so I’m interested to see if these seeds perform any differently for me.  And I’ve never grown the Boon or Azufrado beans, so I’m obviously interested in what these do and how they taste.

Either is okay, though probably Facebook is easier. Though now I am wondering about posting our mailing addresses. Will it be a closed group?

Not interested in working through Facebook but will try to stay connected.  Azufrado didn’t germinate at all but boon, tiger eye and calypso did quite well in Central Texas.  I plan to plant again from the first crop again soon (when temps get back down to 90 or less during the day).  Boon is definitely a climber as were the tiger eyes - calypso made a slight attempt at climbing.  The last variety grew well, produced seed pods but the seeds did not develop well in the pods.  Good luck to all.

Y'all the the frickin tops and if you wanna start up the pony express again I'd be cool with that too ✊

For those of y'all with concerns about Facebook you can just do what many do -- make up an account just for this purpose. :D

I prefer not to use Facebook either. I've never quite figured out how to use it and it was through FB that I got hacked.  So, not sure what I'll do but I do want to stay in touch.  If anyone is in the SF Bay Area (we're at Northridge Coop Homes in SF) and wants to give me a lesson or more on FB, I'm sure I can reciprocate in some way.

As for the beans,  we got off to a late start here where we can plant beans in March.  We planted near the end of May.  Unfortunately the Azufrado (which are my favorite/flavor) didn't do well and only about 40% even germinated.  Those that did, appeared weak and were eaten by bugs.  the others did better, particularly the Tiger's Eye, which has produced quite a few pods, and the Flagelot and Calypso plants are doing well.
