Welcome to the Resident's Associations, Neighbourhood Associations, and Community Associations Online Forum (RANACA),

RANACA History: After feeling frustratingly rudderless in establishing and managing the Dovercourt Park Community Association, Kim Bethke (DPCA Founder) responded to a very kind email from Todd Hofley the President of the Liberty Village Residents' Association (LVRA). Both passionate about making Toronto Better they proposed to establish "a forum on best practices for launching, growing, and managing a RA/CA/NA" while building real cross-community connections.

Our first meeting was attended by:
  1. Liberty Village Residents' Association
  2. Bathurst Quay Neighbourhood Association
  3. Cityplace Residents' Association
  4. Grange Community Association
  5. St. Lawrence Neighbourhood Association
  6. Corktown Business and Residents Association
  7. Cabbagetown Residents Association
  8. Harbord Village Residents Association
  9. Roncesvalles-Macdonnell Residents' Association
  10. Dovercourt Park Community Association
  11. Confederation of Resident & Ratepayer Associations in Toronto
  12. Ossington Community Association
  13. ABC Resident's Association

As of Dec. 2013RANACA currently has over 28 contributing members that use this forum (to review Member Orgs please see the "Members" tab).

RANACA Mandate: It is our belief that community associations throughout Toronto are an absolutely invaluable resource for the City and its residents. With that in mind, RANACA seeks to strengthen community-focused, grassroots organizations by creating connections across RANACAs and uncovering best practices in fundraising, volunteer recruitment, board management, city engagement, organizational structure, and other issues impacting associations. In this way, we hope to ensure that institutional or tribal knowledge of the established or new association can be shared for the benefit of the city overall.

We encourage discussion on topics including:
  • OMB and Development
  • Governance
  • RANACA Structures
  • Fundraising
  • Member Engagement
  • Cross-city Community Building
  • Community Safety
  • Board Engagement
In December of 2013, RANACA began reaching out to engage partners across the GTA, and is still seeking to expand participation in forums and meetings. All meetings, networking events, and notable gatherings will be posted through this group. RANACAs are welcome to self-organize "break out" discussions, "Cross Community" or "Twin" partnerships, or local area meet-ups.

Please remember to treat each other with respect, and happy group working!

Kim Bethke (RANACA Co-Founder)
