Hi Everyone,

Google has just reminded me we have a summit meeting penciled in for March 1st. I'm sending this email to call out for agenda topics and to ask if anyone would like to volunteer a location for us to use (if we'd like to see new neighborhoods).

As an agenda topic, I'd like to propose we talk about the problem with partnership and entertain some presentations. I've had both Cultivate Toronto and AutoShare contact me recently to present to my Community Association about special projects. Additionally, Projexity has been lovely in their presentations previously at Mike Layton's roundtable on transportation.

I think the idea of partnerships with organizations (both non-profit and profit) is murky with untold issues and possibilities. As a new organization, I'd be interested in both hearing other Associations' experiences with partnerships, and hear from those presenting about their ideas.

Thoughts?

P.S. if your invite "got lost in the mail" I've attached a new invitation, below.

The "invitation" has date Feb. 1, no location, and no other information.  Is there an agenda, or minutes of the last (?) meeting?

Hi all,
I'd suggest the proposed Development Permit System that Keesmaat is heavily pushing as an item. I'd be happy to present on this if desired. Public meetings are coming up in March:
http://www1.toronto.ca/wps/portal/contentonly?vgnextoid=3b2cd9e27ac93410VgnVCM10000071d60f89RCRD

I strongly encourage RANACA members to mark their calendars and plan on attending the sessions---this could have a big impact.

Another possibility would be to invite some or other Planning official to come speak to RANACA about the DPS (contact info is on the page just linked to). There's a bunch of spin going on, but in any case it would be good if RANACA was at the table so far as consultations are concerned.

My own view is that the DPS is very problematic. I sent around a long CORRA discussion paper which goes into gory detail, but if you want a 1-page "latest thoughts" summary about what the most pressing concerns are. I attach it here.

Hi Everyone!

Unfortunately I will not be able to make anything this weekend as I am booked solid, but I would like to second Kim's suggestion of a topic (whether it goes ahead this weekend or we find another time). I think it's very important that RANACA's look outside their traditional base of support and entertain these types of possibilities. Full disclosure - my own RA has just signed an exclusive sponsorship deal with Zipcar - so I have some skin in the game :)

I also think it speaks to the founding vision Kim and I had when creating RANACA and that it speaks to governance and not policy. I think groups like CORRA speak very well to issues of policy (for eg. The new permit system) and it behooves RANACA to stay clear of that mandate and stick to its own - best practices, overcoming obstacles and best ways to run and operate a RANACA.

I'm happy to assist in outreach to make sure we find a time to get together as it seems a little late - and the response is thusfar lukewarm - to have it this Saturday.

I hope you are all having a splendid winter!

Hi folks,

Thanks for the reminder & for Todd’s helpful reflections. Sorry, I can’t possibly make March 1. Up to my ears in time consuming consultations around the Central Tech field.

Hi all:

Unfortunately, I'm another person who is unable to attend a meeting this weekend. I'm available most other Saturdays in March so if we can reschedule, that would be great.

As for topics, I agree that exploring what associations are doing with partnerships could be very interesting.

Regards,

Steve

Hi again everyone,

it looks like we have quite a few "No's" in our list of attendees. I'm going to make the leap that this meeting crept up on the vast majority of us and propose we push it back until a more convenient time. Let's say the first weekend in April?

Would anyone be willing to host?

Also, please let me know if there are further agenda topics. I'll re-boot the Google invite so that attendees can "edit" it and "Suggest times" - if Google doesn't work great for you, just let me know and I'll keep a tally of the attendees.

Hi everyone!

Could someone volunteer or advise on a space (a meeting room, library, bar, coffee shop, etc) in their area where we can meet up in April?

Hi everyone!

Can we confirm attendance for the meeting this weekend? I'm just negotiating some space at CSI Bathurst Street or Network Orange and want to confirm our numbers.

Thanks,

There will be 1 or 2 of us from Corktown. Thanks for organizing! Sorry we haven't been more help in finding a space.

Unfortunately I am unable to attend this Saturday. If we don't get enough responses I would suggest we push it again, set a firm date with a firm agenda that's at least a month ahead of time and try for May.

Thanks!

Alright, we have a great location booked (CSI Bathurst) for this weekend, but I'd love it not to be a private party (it looks like just me an you so far Corktown), please let me know attendance before this Thursday!

David, RANACA is a working group of residents associations with a mandate to connect Residents Associations, Community Associations, and Neighbourhood Associations and discuss governance, engagement, and management of effective groups. Most members of RANACA are also members of CORRA or FONTRA, and sometimes both. There are no costs for membership and each association decides their level of input and involvement. The aims are to help new community associations learn from more established associations, and support more mature associations in adopting new ideas. I hope to see you on Saturday!

Unfortunately the weekends will never work for me, may I suggest using to Doodle in the future to schedule a meeting.

It's works best when you suggest 5 dates and go with the date that has the max attendances.
