Dear RAN-Twin Cities and Friends-
Happy New Year!
Hope you are doing wonderfully and 2011 is off to a great start! The previous year was a whirlwind of amazing activism with a great victory in General Mills’ adaptation of a strong palm oil policy last September. Here’s a brief update from the past few months:
1. RAN-TC on Twin Cities Indymedia’s “Resistance in Review: Top 10 of 2010” for top 10 highest views!
Did you see Twin Cities Indymedia’s end of the year post of the top 10 most-viewed posts? We were rockin’ it with some other amazing change-makers on there, with 5,843 views. Cool! There’s a great picture of the 42-person, 90’x30’ banner we displayed on General Mills lawn last year- can you believe it was almost already a year ago?! Thanks again to everyone who made it out that day- it was 13 degrees and 8am!

2. Report-back from RAN Visit to Indonesia
If you weren’t able to make it to RAN-TC’s fun Solstice Social Hour last month, you can still see Ashley Schaeffer’s blog posts about what she witnessed in Indonesia: from slave labor for palm oil production to failures & unanswered questions at the RSPO annual conference in Jakarta. Now it’s clearer than ever how human rights abuses and environmental abuses are both so exacerbated by the palm oil industry. Fortunately, thanks to you, we’re all stepping up to stop it! So what’s the next step?
3. Please share YOUR ideas for 2011!
What would you like to see happen in the next months? We would love to hear from YOU what strategies, actions, and ideas you would like to see come to fruition with RAN-TC this year! You’re cordially invited to join RAN-TC’s Skype Strategy Session on Monday, January 17th, 2010 and contribute your perspective of awesome local ways to apply powerful pressure on Cargill and beyond! Also, you’ll get to meet the incredible new Lindsey Allen, Rainforest Agribusiness Campaign Director who joined our team last November. After Lindsey and Ashley’s trip to Indonesia, we are reflecting on the smartest ways to move forward in our campaign and would love to hear from you on Monday, Jan. 17th! We’ll be Skyping in from San Francisco to a have a (virtual) presence, and hope to see ya there!
What: RAN-TC Skype Strategy Session
Where: Minneapolis, TBD- stay tuned for details, but mark your calendar!
When: Monday, Jan. 17th, 2010, 8pm
