Good News!

I found a death certificate for one Maria Inocencia Ortiz Y Martinez (1873-1888), daughter to Jose Monserrate Ortiz an Monserrate Martinez (de la Seda). All of Duey Alto, one of our ancestral towns, about a mile from Rosario.

Maria Inocencia would be a sister to Maria Folimena Ortiz y Martinez, Caridad Ortiz Rodriguez' mother. She married Luis Ramos Torres, my Grandfather.

Interesting facts:
*Monserrate Martinez showed up in an earlier census as living very near to Filomena Ortiz Martinez with a sibling, so I already had her as mother to Folimena.
*Many, many Ortizes in the records are recorded as Mulatto (possibly Taino).
*Inocencia died at fifteen of Hypochromic Anemia (probably iron deficiency or simply starvation).
*I have found a Martinez ancestor in a record on the Ramos side that seems to confirm that Luis Ramos y Torres and Caridad Rodriguez y Ortiz are cousins by marriage.
*Rodriguez often appears alone, without a compound surname like Perez y Torres or Sepulvea y Ramos. Rarely, Rodriguez de la Seda, presumably from a silk trading town. De (la) is a location specific conjunction (not       implying noble origin) used in Basque surnames west of Navarre, Spain (Wikipedia).
*The longest Spanish surname recorded is Burionagonatotorecagageazcoechea sported by an employee at the Ministry of Finances in Madrid in 1867 (Wiki).

Questions:

Does anyone know the any histories of the Ortiz Martinez family? Were there like fifteen children?

Can anyone tell me of the origins of Caridad's father, Rogelio Rodriguez y Martin? He did have a farm there, which would probably make him descendent to landed nobility. Rogelio just 'pops up' in the area (with a farm? unlikely).

For those of us who are in need of a graph (me), the newly found Great Great Grandparent is Jose Monserrate Ortiz:

Yours,

Vic
