Spread the Word!

Assalamu alaikum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuh

We are now 2 weeks into our Ramadan Campaign and it’s time to really get the word out there. Alhamdulillah through your efforts so far, more people in the Muslim community know about the work of New Muslim Care and Women’s Resource Centre, which means that we can help more, inshaAllah.

New Champions are joining us every day so if you are one of them, you can catch up on the previous task as follows: Task 1.

Many of the pledge forms and materials have been mailed out, please check your mail for those inshaAllah. If you have not given you mailing address to us please reply back to me.

Task 2: Spread the Word [15 Minutes]

Speak to 10 of your friends and introduce them to the cause you have chosen.

Send a text message to them and at least 20 of your friends and family with the following message:
NMC: Converting to a new faith can mean losing your family and social support very quickly. Often that may leave one homeless and isolated, eventually leading to reversion back to their previous faith or none at all. Help New Muslim Care alleviate the burdens new Muslims face. 1 Dollar a day changes lives.

WRC
: Facing life-changing or difficult circumstances can be amplified by a lack of Muslim naseehah and resources. Often that may lead Muslim Sisters with unanswered questions resulting in them feeling less confident about their faith. Help Women’s Resource Centre alleviate the burdens Muslim women may face. 1 Dollar a day changes lives.

Assalaamu Alaikum [insert name]

In shaa Allah I pray this email reaches all of you in the best of health and imaan.

I am just popping in a line to let all of you know that in shaa Allah I am collecting zakat and sadaqah for a Canadian organization: [type New Muslim Care or Women's Resource Centre].

Let me tell you a little about these organizations. [type New Muslim Care or Women's Resource Centre] is a program of Mercy Mission, the same organization that started the AlKauthar Institute.

[select 1 of next 2 paragraphs]

New Muslim Care is an program set up to guide and mentor new Muslims in Canada. A study in was conducted which found that 75% of new Muslims revert out of Islam within the first 3 years. This can be due to a number of reasons such as lack of social support, lack of Islamic education, and emotional abuse. This statistic is shocking! (Watch http://youtu.be/5SXRWgEflAM for more shocking statistics). So basically, what New Muslim Care is setting out to do is educate, mentor, and empower new Muslims within Canada. They provide one-on-one mentoring, a New Muslim Care Kit (including Islamic resources), and social events for Muslims to get together and build a relationship with each other.

Women’s Resource Centre is an program geared towards Muslim Women. As much as we may advocate that Islam does not sanction abuse towards women, unfortunately there are hundreds cases where women are being physically, sexually, emotionally, and financially abused in Muslim homes. The Women’s Resource Centre is a safe-haven for Muslim women to come to and learn how to empower themselves. Through empowerment seminars, private counselling sessions, and social activities, women can learn about their rights as Muslims and as Canadians. Through WRC your money will help establish a crisis helpline in Canada for Muslim women. In shaa Allah, in the future, Mercy Mission and the WRC also hope to build a women’s shelter for women who need to flee from abusive homes and help them get back on their feet. (Watch http://youtu.be/rccQwDZGmnI
to get a better idea of what WRC hopes to address.)

In shaa Allah I pray that after reading this you can see the importance of both these initiatives. Many times we think that it is “back home” that is in need of our help. I am not denying that one single bit. However, it is important to know that just because we live in a first-world country does not mean that our brothers and sisters in Canada don’t need our support as well.

I encourage you all to donate as much as you can (as your zakat or sadaqah) to one or both of these organizations. Just on a side, [type New Muslim Care or Women's Resource Centre] fall under 2 of the 8 categories of Zakah and are eligible for your Zakah.

I will be collecting all through the month of Ramadan in shaa Allah. I pray that Allah SWT places barakah in your wealth, your health and your time. And May Allah SWT make this Ramadan fruitful for you all. Ameen.

Did You Know?

In a hadith recorded by ibn Majah, the Prophet Muhammad (may the peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said, “There are five things with which you will be tested, and I seek refuge with Allah lest you live to see them. Immorality never appears amongst a people to such an extent that they commit it openly, except that plagues and diseases that were never known amongst their predecessors will spread amongst them.
They do not cheat in weights and measures, except that they will be stricken with famine, severe calamity and oppression by their rulers. They do not withhold the zakat of their wealth, except that rain will be withheld from the sky, and were it not for the animals then no rain would fall on them.

They do not break their covenant with Allah and His Messenger, except that Allah will enable their enemies to overpower them and take some of what is in their hands. Unless their leaders rule according to the Book of Allah and seek all good from that which Allah has revealed, Allah will cause them to fight one another.”

Jazakum Allahu khair for sharing that. I thought I had replaced the text but it did not update.

Please note two corrections in the text.

WRC text message: Facing life-changing or difficult circumstances can be amplified by a lack of Muslim naseehah and resources. Often this may lead to unanswered questions, resulting in Muslim Sisters feeling less confident about their faith and lives. Help Women’s Resource Centre alleviate the burdens Muslim women may face. 1 Dollar a day changes lives.

Paragraph 4 in Email:
Let me tell you a little about this organization.

Salam. JAK for the email. While skimming it quickly, I noticed 2 inconsistencies that should be corrected (I recommend carefully checking for others):
- the WRC text message: something is wrong with it (a verb I think)
- the email: you instruct to "

select 1 of next 2 paragraphs" but the refer to "these two initiatives". People will loose their readers when it doesn't make sense to them.
