Assalamu alaikum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuh

SubhanAllah - Ramadan has almost come to an end. In these last few days, tonight which could be Laylatul Qadr, I wanted to share a story. It is perhaps one of the most famous stories from the lives of the companions, but reflecting on the competition between Abu Bakr and 'Umar (radhyillahu 'anhuma) never fails to be an inspiration for us to spend in the way of Allah.

The Messenger of Allah (sallalahu 'alayhi wa sallam) once called upon his companions to give in charity.

'Umar saw that as an oppurtunity to outstrip Abu Bakr and he said, 'Today, I am going to surpass Abu Bakr.' He then said, 'So I came with half of my property.'

The Messenger of Allah (sallalahu 'alayhi wa sallam) asked, 'What have you left for your family?' I answered, 'As much as this.'

Then Abu Bakr came with all that he had and the Messenger of Allah (sallalahu 'alayhi wa sallam) said, 'What have you left for your family?' He replied, 'I left for them Allah and his Messenger.'It is then that I ('Umar) said, 'I shall never compete with him on anything again!" (At Tirmidhi)

What a beautiful example of healthy competition between brothers in Islam in the race towards Allah.

May Allah inspire us all to be generous and to make sacrifices for His sake in these special days and nights of Ramadan, and throughout our lives! Ameen

Tonight and in these remaining days, compete with your brothers and sisters to get pledges for New Muslim Care or Women's Resource Centre. Although we do have a prize for the highest number of pledges, the reward is inshaAllah in the akhirah (hereafter). Also remember to complete the following task inshaAllah

Task 5 - [5 Minutes]

Women's Resource Centre:
Have you ever found yourself walking down a path and suddenly trip over a rock and fall flat on your face? You have travelled down this path your whole life, but never seemed to notice the rock before. How did it get there and how did I after all this time fail to notice the one thing that would define my future? There's a struggle getting up; body is bruised and the scars seem so visible to the world. It is the fear of failing to walk again that keeps you frozen. Depression hurts but there is an answer.

Support your sisters through the 1st Muslim Women's HelpLine in North America. Donate online: http://mercymission.chipin.com/helpline-telephone-services

At Iftaar or Tarawih tonight, before going home get at least 1 person to make an ongoing pledge for your cause.

Fill out one pledge yourself

Speak to yourself- be part of your own initiative!

The Power of Du'a

As we enter the last few days of this blessed month, it's time to take a break from our wordly affairs and focus on our spiritual goals. Making du'a is a beautiful and simple act of worship which brings one closer to Allah:

"And when My servants ask you concerning Me, then (answer them), I am indeed near to them. I respond to the supplications of the supplicant when he calls on Me!" Surah al-Baqarah, 186.

As a Champion, we recognise the hard work you have undertaken as part of the campaign alhamdulillah. Here are three key du'as to make over the next few days in order to further strengthen your efforts:

Make du'a for yourself: Ask Allah to accept all your efforts as a New Muslim Care or Women's Resource Centre Champion and pray that everything you have done has been sincerely for His sake alone

Make du'a for those in need: Make du'a for those in need: Pray for all those Muslims in our neighbourhoods going through difficulty, namely those suffering physical or emotional abuse, crushed by debt, those living in broken homes and lonely new Muslims.

Make du'a for our community: Ask Allah to help Mercy Mission make an integral contribution to the development of a pious, confident, selfless and self-sufficient Canadian Muslim community, in which no individual in need is left abandoned.

May Allah subhanahu wa ta'alaa reward you for your commitment to supporting brothers and sisters in your community. Jazakumullahu khairan.

Wassalamu alaikum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuh
