Have You Heard Your Brothers and Sisters?

Assalamu alaikum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuh

Alhamdulillah we are now in week 3 of our Ramadan Champions program! We hope that you have had the opportunity to speak to people so far and become voices for New Muslim Care and Women's Resource Centre, inshaAllah. For new Champions who have recently joined us, you are welcome to catch up on previous tasks: Task 1, and Task 2.

InshaAllah, you are all enjoying the blessed month of Ramadan and focusing on how to increase your good deeds. Giving charity and encouraging others to do the same is one such way you can do this.

Here are some ways to help in gathering pledges:

    • Send a personalized email to 30 friends asking each to pledge just $1 a day Zakat and/or Sadaqa.
    • Do a sponsored walk or bike ride whilst fasting.
    • Organize a collection at your local masjid (seek permission first). Mercy Mission can provide you with fundraising materials such as posters, leaflets, donation forms and pens. Contact in...@mercymission.ca to order material.
    • Organize an iftaar for friends and do a short presentation about NMC or WRC and how they are making a difference to people's lives. Collect donations after the presentation (but before food is served!).

Below you will find this week's Task. Please read the attached REAL stories and share with your contacts.

Task 3: Share Stories [15 Minutes]

Share these real life case studies on Facebook or Twitter with the following short messages.

Women's Resource Centre:
Being trapped in a violent marriage with a baby on the way. Finally manages to escape but it is isolated from friends and family, having to live in shelters with her infant. Have you heard your sister's story? Read and share her story to raise awareness and ask me how you can support sisters like her.

New Muslim Care:
"I was dragged back home. Arguments rose between us, and the beatings started. Violent threats turned to violent hits." Have you heard your brother's story? Read and share his story to raise awareness and ask me how you can support others like him.

Did You Know?

The fact that a critical objective of Zakat is the attainment of social-economic justice is not disputed. After all, Islam does not like any form of concentration of wealth or income in a few hands and considers their redistribution by means acceptable in the Shari'ah one of the major objectives of the Islamic economic system. 'Abd Allah ibn 'Abbas (RA) narrates that when the Prophet (salAllahu alayhi wa sallam) sent Mu'adh ibn Jabel (RA) to Yemen he told him, "You are going to a people who have a Scripture, so call them to testify that there is no deity but Allah, and that I am the Messenger of Allah. If they respond to this, then teach them that Allah has imposed five Salaah upon them every day. If they respond to this, then teach them that Allah has imposed upon them a charity to be taken from the we althy amongst them and given to their poor. If they respond to this, then beware of taking any more of their wealth!"

Zakat was understood to be a transfer of a certain portion of wealth from the haves to the have-nots as a duty to Allah.

May Allah subhanahu wa ta'alaa reward you for your commitment to being a Champion. Jazakumullahu khairan.

Wassalamu alaikum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuh

to Nazaneen J, ramadan-...@googlegroups.com

I regret to inform you that I am quitting this project.  This is is an effort that I am able to contribute to as I am involved with many other projects that are consuming most my time.  I think this should have been organized are little earlier, so I coud have known what it entails.

Sorry again. Let me know if you want me to return the package.

Thank you
