So I use bold text in certain parts of my messages like *bold text* (which translates to bold text) and it works perfectly fine in desktop version of Facebook and also on messenger.com but strangely the android messenger app can't display the text between the asterisks in bold, instead, it just prints out *bold text*

In November 2010, Facebook announced its new Facebook Messages service, which allows users to have a @facebook.com e-mail addresses. The system is more than just email: it combines emails, text messaging, instant messaging, and regular messages. Facebook Messenger is the next step of this evolution, in my opinion, and like I said before: "Beluga's technology will play a big part in the mobile version of this feature."

Facebook's official messenger app is the obvious way for many smartphone users to chat and share content with their social media contacts. Since Facebook deactivated the messaging feature within their mobile app, users appear to have no choice but to switch to the separate Messenger app. This becomes especially annoying when you realize that the app always runs in the background, consuming both battery power and data. This should also ring alarm bells when it comes to data protection. Facebook Messenger constantly scans internal data such as contacts, browser history, calendar info, and even GPS data.

With such a plethora of social media platforms and instant messaging apps, it can be very difficult to keep track of everything. Multi-messenger apps bring several services together into one easily accessible app. This is especially handy because it means that you can uninstall multiple apps from different providers, including Facebook Messenger.

One major downside of such apps is compatibility. Because multi-messenger software like this retrieves data from different services, updates to these services can often cause instability, or even incompatibility. It has emerged that some multi messenger apps like IM+ (Android and iOS) had to stop supporting Facebook because of these reasons. As a company, Facebook has also been known to block third-party integration of your apps. This has meant that good quality apps for Facebook, like Social Media Vault and Puffin, have to link back to Facebook Messenger to retrieve messages.

If it is the case that you are not just looking for an alternative to Facebook messenger, but want to completely switch to a different social network, our Digital Guide also has plenty of recommendations relating to this.

This is also happening on my ipad. Being logged out of Facebook defeats the purpose of having messenger and Facebook linked. Apple: do you plan on having this fixed or is there a way to put in a ticket for it to be fixed? It is unacceptable in my opinion, considering how many people use their ipad specifically for social media.

-Reality: While it's required to download if you are using Facebook's mobile app on the iPhone or Android smartphones, you can avoid it if use the Facebook messenger service on your desktop or laptop, iPad or even the mobile Facebook website.

-Reality: Facebook's terms of service are the same for all its mobile apps, including the main Facebook app. You can read it here: m.facebook.com/policies. What's upsetting people is the list of "permissions" they see when they download and install the app on an Android phone. It's a long list with 10 items, each of which states that the app needs access to features on your phone including contacts, calendar, location data and Wi-Fi information. Sure, that's a lot of personal data. But it's the same data most messaging apps have access to. On the iPhone, users don't get the list of permissions when they install the app, but when they use it, permissions pop up individually. You can view the app's list of permissions here: . Click "view details" under Permissions.

Facebook Messenger is an instant messaging app developed by Facebook for their users to exchange messages instantly with friends. While this application often runs smoothly it can occasionally become unresponsive or idle. If you're facing a Facebook messenger is not connected issue, here are some potential solutions.

To achieve this level of granular control you want you will struggle on the Meraki for the reasons previously outlined. You would need a firewall that supports HTTPS inspection, which basically decrypts the traffic to be able to differentiate between facebook messenger and regular Facebook.

Hi guys. I have a Samsung Note 3. I'm having an issue which started recently where Facebook Messenger video messages that I send do not have any sound. When I press and hold the video record button in the app and then release the button to replay a recording there is a slight click sound and then total silence throughout the video. Oh my dad that the camera works perfectly in the phone and all videos work as they should. I've done absolutely everything I can think of including uninstalling both Facebook and the messenger app, reinstalling, clearing cache for the apps, clearing cache for the phone, wiping your phone to factory settings and reinstalling everything and a few others to no avail. Any ideas you may have would be greatly appreciated as I'm totally fed up with this issue. TIA

Under Windows Subsystem For Android: In Facebook Messenger, after clicking Attach A File button to add a file to the chat, an info screen appears with the message No media found. Click Camera To Open. There is no way to access the computer's hard drive to retrieve a file. Nor is there a setting to assign a path to the location of the files you want to access.

Does anyone know the path that messenger is looking at?

Thinking that this would be a great tool for advertising library programs to teens, I was quick to download the app, and it is a great tool for messaging both phone contacts and Facebook contacts. The photo function and location functions are easy to use, and sending a message is just like sending a text. Unfortunately, the photo and location features are not accessible to teens already using the Facebook Mobile app on their smart phones. The message must be viewed from the full Facebook page or the Facebook messenger app in order to get these additional features. There is also privacy issue in that names of any recipient of the message are visible to the other recipients.
