Dear Friend,

We hope you’ll join us for this Sunday’s Meditation Practice. Starting this week, our mindful movement, meditation and group discussions will be soaked in sunlight thanks to the time change and longer days. By slowing down, we can restore our energy and spring forward into the week ahead.

Speaking of bright light, this week we’re highlighting fellow practitioner Angie!

Raleigh Temple (8).jpg

When did you start coming to the temple?

Over 10 years ago… just a few months after the Raleigh Temple opened. Previously I had attended a single session of meditation with Reverends Wongong and Ginger at the Moving Mantra Yoga studio. I was so filled with joy after that session. Attending the Raleigh Temple felt like coming home. The sense of peace and connection keeps me coming back.

What's your favorite meditation technique?

Chanting. I love that we don't worry about our individual voices. It is true perfection when it seems that we are all one voice.

Any advice for new meditators?

Attempting to mediate is where the real magic happens.  I haven't met many who say they are good at meditation, I know I'm not.

What's something on your bucket list you hope to do one day?

Although there are a number of experiences that I would like to have, none of them feel like absolutes. My best memories have come from being deeply present in ordinary times or taking advantage of unexpected beauty. As I have watched both my parents’ age and their world become smaller, I realize how important it is to find joy in ordinary, daily blessings.

What’s something we might not know about you?

I have three adult children, two of whom have gotten married in the past six months. It is my goal to be the best mother-in-law ever.

What else keeps you busy when you're not meditating?

I work as a tutor for Language and Math for Elementary students.  I love kids and my job. To me tutoring is like solving a puzzle: Finding and nurturing the missing skill that will allow the child to flourish is so rewarding. Outside of work, I love to stay physically active, garden, solve word and math puzzles, read, write, practice the Djembe drum, cuddle with my three cats and visit my 89-year-old mom.

Thank you, Angie, for being a cornerstone of our community!

Sunday Morning Practice

We hope you can join us on Sunday for our in-person practice. But don’t forget you can always join our sister temple in Chapel Hill for their 10 AM practice which is streamed online via YouTube. Find this week’s livestream here.

Palms together,

Paige (Doh Jin) for Reverends WonGong & Shaun

Your Practice is the heartbeat of our dharma community.
