Dear Friend,

Is that fresh, new year feeling starting to fade? Join us this Sunday, January 11 at 4:00 PM for Meditation Practice at the Raleigh Temple. Through group meditation and movement, we will reconnect to the peaceful stillness within and refresh our energy for the week – and year – ahead.

Need a little extra motivation? We talked to Justin, a Raleigh Temple regular, about what meditation does for him.

What keeps you coming back to the Raleigh Temple?

I started coming to the temple in 2019. Meditation and the teachings of Buddhism are an important part of my personal growth, so going to the temple is a good way to incorporate them into my life.  Additionally, I love being part of the community here.  WonGong is a great steward of Won Buddhism and makes our gatherings fun. I feel like I can be myself when I come to the temple.

What's your favorite meditation technique?

Definitely lying down meditation.  I never have physical discomfort when I am lying down.  With that said, it's nice to earn that relief by doing sitting meditation first.

Any advice for new meditators?

Be forgiving of yourself.  Any attempt at meditation is productive in my book, even if you have a lot of wandering thoughts that day.  It's a lifelong journey.

What keeps you busy when you're not meditating?

Being a husband and cat father. Otherwise, I am always dreaming about and planning international travel. Europe is my specialty (talk to me if anyone needs travel advice).

What's something we might not know about you?

This will probably not surprise anyone, but I used to do stand-up comedy (before Youtube, so you won't find me there). Also, I had several UFO encounters years ago.

Thank you, Justin, for being a wonderful part of our community!

We hope you can join us this Sunday for our in-person practice. If you can’t make it this week, don’t forget you can always join our sister temple in Chapel Hill for their 10 AM practice which is streamed online via YouTube. Find this week’s livestream broadcast here

Palms together,

Paige (Doh Jin) for Reverends WonGong & Shaun

Your Practice is the heartbeat of our dharma community.
