Hey Rakevet,
Tomorrow, June 5th, is National Hunger
Awareness Day.
National Hunger Awareness Day is
an effort to raise awareness of—and donations to help end—hunger in America. It
was created in 2002, at a time when there was a significant increase in the
number of Americans unable to feed their families. Clearly this dramatic
disparity between increased demand and decreased supply needed to be addressed.
National Hunger Awareness Day emerged as an important way to increase awareness
about hunger in America. National Hunger Awareness Day is observed on the first
Tuesday of June each year.
As USYers we can do out part in helping out with
world hunger whether its donating a can of food, helping out at a soup kitchen
or just seeing a homeless person on the street and buying them a quick bite to
eat. Another step we can take is by donating to organizations like MAZON (A
Jewish Response to World Hunger).
So tomorrow, June 5th, try to do something special
to help those less fortunate by donating a few dollars or a little bit of your
time to help the National Hunger Awarness. And when you take a bite into your
delicious sandwich tomorrow (mine is peaunut butter and jelly), think about
those who are hungry!
