I would absolutely love to be able to rename files within the platform. We try to keep our file names consistent so that we know what they are and it would be so much more convenient to be able to upload files quickly with whatever name they already have and then edit the name afterward.

We have users who upload files, and those users give their files names that are vary greatly. If the Monday.com platform could rename uploaded files to a standard naming convention, that would be excellent. Are plans in place for this capability?

The most recent is that I can't rename a duplicated file. Pressing "Enter" gives the "error" chime. Right-clicking does not give the rename option (screenshot below). I can rename the file on dropbox.com and the change is reflected locally but this is time-consuming. This has happened for multiple files in different folders.

The two ways to duplicate a file on a Mac that I use most often are Command+D (or right-click and select Duplicate). This creates an identical file in the same folder with " copy" appended to the file name. The rename option is missing.

1) You really need to make it clear that "paper" and "dropbox" might as well be two different brands and companies that have very little in common. One kind of assumes, expects, that the "dropbox" part of the name would mean they get some of the benefits of Dropbox, but they don't. There is no sharing between "dropbox" and "paper', no offline editing, or syncing. I do not like Google Docs that much, but this small detail of having your files offline is why I, and many, I am sure, do use it.

3) I made a folder under my paper HOME, and now I want to delete it. It is not shared with anyone and it is empty, but the only options I have for the folder is Rename, Move, Archive, from within the folder. From the parent page, there is no option for that folder at all, no "..." on the right side, nothing.

4) is there a way to get rid of "Recently viewed" as the default, and seemingly only, view of the files and folders. With "Recently viewed" there is no hierarchy between the files and the folder... just a long list of unrelated files and folders. It's chaotic and redundant. It is only good for when you are dealing with very few documents, so it is a good option, but nothing but unproductive when dealing with more than a few file and folders. Is there a way to enable a normal hierarchical file system view, like a typical file browser, especially considering I can't use my local file browser like I can with Dropbox?

Some of these (like hierarchical tree view) are already on the feature request forum, and I'd suggest you go and kudo them to upvote. The point about bringing the products of Paper and DB together are also there too somewhere, it is something many have wanted I think.

Thanks. Yes, I discovered that is how you rename... which is quite horrible as now I have the file name in huge letters at the top or my document!! There isn't one rational argument why having my filename as the first huge line of my document make any sense Sadly, this one useless feature almost completely breaks any chance of using "paper", which is really unfortunate because it is otherwise really good.

Perhaps this was the intent, but to change the "filename" paradigm which came about out of practical necessity, and honed over the decades, there must be a VERY compelling advantage to forcing the first line of a document to be the "document title". But let's use your metaphor of a book. I have a book titled "Legally Blind" written by Duncan Stroud, but the first line of the book is "Duncan Stroud"... so, that should be the name of my file? But I do not want the first line to be the name of my file... if I did, I would name the file the same as the first line of the document... but now I have no choice.

As a "filename" I had a choice. as a "document title" I do not. And why would the developers assume/demand that the first line IS the title document? Literally, none of my document's first-lines is the "document title". The first line of my meeting notes from last week is "her **bleep** are hanging out" (referring to a co-worker who wears tops far too small for her shapeliness.) So, that is now my document title? I guess the developers felt their decision to invent a "new concept" far outweighed the users right to name his files has he wished.

Bottom line... "paper" takes away my ability to manage my docs the way I want in lieu of a problematic (somewhat totalitarian) alternative that offers no benefit whatsoever. So, I will wait until "paper" realizes this was really dumb idea and changes back to something that works with the client, not against them.

Hello this is a minor question about the platform: while experimenting with boards and API access, I noticed that the columns keep their ID when renamed, and this is a correct behavior, in my opinion.

I had this exact same question a month ago. My context arose when investigating the column ID anomalies in relation to using webhooks, and confirmed using the API interface, following the duplication or renaming of a column, or the duplication of a board.

Column IDs are immutable and generated when a column is created. To generate the ID, we take the column title at column creation, lowercase it and add underscores, and then add a random digit to the end (if the resulting ID is not unique).

I had originally thought that an administrator controlled code snippet to reset the column IDs may be an option. But for now, I just note that column IDs will rarely align with the actual column titles, and that any explanation to others needs to include a note to ignore the column IDs as they are meaningless.

To generate the ID, we take the column title at column creation, lowercase it and add underscores for any special characters or whitespace, and then add a random digit to the end (if the resulting ID is not unique).

A received a gdb and needed to rename some of the features. The dataset is stored on our local network share. If I rename the feature in ArcMap 10.8.1 the change takes 2-3 seconds. Pro 2.9.3 takes about 20 seconds. In Pro 3 the same rename can take up to 3 minutes.

I am using 3.1.3 and also have been annoyed at the slowness for renaming features. I often just Desktop for these sort of changes (e.g. renaming lots of features, basic editing) and only use Pro when I need to reference streaming data. I would love to have Pro be faster for basic operations.

It's a festering problem in the mindset of software developers there. For example, if i select a number of items in the model tree to Suppress, but one of them is already suppressed, then I can't Suppress any of them; I think the same applies to Hide. Rather than look at doing the most with what's available the PTC developers look to error out even when it's not required, but not in a way that informs the user or gives them a choice. More like a Monty Python argument.

You can add everything to workspace and go offline from server ,or take a backup and rename the required part , then import to windchill and then update the required parts from the common space/windchill cabinet .

First of all, this is a convenience issue. My workflow is functioning correctly and giving me the correct output. However, there is one minor wrinkle. So I have a workflow which uses Dynamic Rename to take field names from the first row of data. There are about 200 fields in this file, so this is a massive time saver.

When the workflow is not running, one of my downstream Select tools keeps "remembering" the old field names (F1, F2 etc....) instead of the field names from the Dynamic Rename tool, and as such, I keep getting an error on the next Formula tool, as it says it can't find the variable named by the Dynamic Rename.

As I said, once the workflow runs, the error disappears and it runs thru these tools without issue. However, later on, it will "remember" these old field names and forget the Dynamic Renamed fields. I have "Forgotten Missing Fields" in the Select tool several times, but the old fields seem to keep popping up.

Any thoughts? I would share the workflow, but this is a confidential workflow unfortunately. Also, please forgive any lapses in Alteryx Community best practice, this is my first post in this community.

As far as I know, the dynamic rename is one of the few tools which doesnt update the metadata info unless you run the workflow. There is no way around this. You may come up with a solution to it using many different tools together but I think you will need to stick to it.
