Subject: lecture 3 outline
Hi Sarthak,
Attached is lecture outline for today. Please post it for the class. Missing from the outline is the Memoryless property for geometric random variables and the calculation of expectation of a geometric random variable using it.
Please post the following -
The key things we covered today are the following:
- we started with a couple of examples using the Linearity of Expectation.
- defined Bernoulli Trials and defined geometric random variables arising as a result of a sequence of Bernoulli trials.
- discussed the memoryless property of a geometric random variable
- calculated expectation of a geometric random variable in 3 ways. The derivation using memoryless property is a useful thing to keep in mind.
- application to the Coupon Collectors Problem.
Thanks,
Rajiv
