Required Skills & Qualifications
- Core Development: 10+ years of experience in C++ and Pro*C (Embedded SQL).
- Database Mastery: Strong proficiency in Oracle 19c, including writing complex SQL queries for data validation and rectification.
- Scripting: Expert knowledge of Unix/Shell Scripting and Python for job automation and server monitoring.
- Modern Tooling: Hands-on experience with GitHub and GitHub Actions for version control.
- Monitoring: Experience using Splunk for log analysis and incident tracking.
- Production Focus: Proven ability to handle incident requests, perform Root Cause Analysis (RCA), and manage application stability.
Role Overview
The Software Engineer (C++/Oracle) will manage the stability, availability, and ongoing enhancement of core healthcare processing applications at UHC. This 100% remote role is a blend of backend development and advanced production support. You will be responsible for ensuring the system stays operational by resolving complex incidents—such as "stuck claims"—using deep technical analysis of code and database records. This is a high-impact position requiring a candidate who can navigate legacy codebases while maintaining modern uptime standards.
Technical Core & Responsibilities
Systems Maintenance & Support
- Incident Management: Oversee the application environment, responding to and resolving incident requests to ensure maximum availability.
- Root Cause Analysis (RCA): Perform detailed analysis of system failures, identifying the source of "stuck" transactions or claims and implementing permanent code or data fixes.
- Job Monitoring: Utilize Unix/Linux commands and Shell scripts to monitor batch jobs and ensure server performance remains optimal.
Backend Development & Database
- C++ & Pro*C Coding: Perform development and functional enhancements in C++ and Pro*C to improve system logic and efficiency.
- SQL Data Rectification: Analyze and resolve data-level issues by executing SQL queries to detect and rectify errors within the Oracle 19c environment.
- Server Maintenance: Participate in and supervise server upgrades and patching, performing post-maintenance validation to ensure all application functions are correct.
DevOps & Monitoring
- Version Control: Manage code changes and deployment workflows using GitHub and GitHub Actions.
- Log Analysis: Proactively monitor application health and identify bottlenecks using Splunk.
- Process Improvement: Continuously refine monitoring scripts and automation to prevent recurring production issues.
