Kate reluctantly agrees and tells the woman she and Tony have two kids and are happily married and not to call back. Tony laughs and tells McGee to pay Kate. McGee grimaces and pays her $40. When Kate asks, McGee tells her Tony bet him $40 that he could get Kate to say she was his wife. I laughed.
At NCIS HQ, McGee finally gets his autograph from Cooper. Gibbs arrives and asks how Cooper made his way to Black Lake. Cooper lays out maps and weather patterns and says that one of the roads to the McAllister family compound was washed out the week Lt. McAllister vanished. A local would have taken the road right by Black Lake. Accordingly, anyone who wanted to kill Lt. McAllister (how does Cooper know that anyone did?) had to know the roads the way a local knows them and had to know Lt. McAllister was coming home that weekend.
-McGee has mentioned being an aspiring author before (in either Sub Rosa (Episode 1.7) or Eye Spy (Episode 1.8), but he mentions in this episode that the main character in his book is based on Gibbs. This leads to a cute bit on down the road.
-As Gibbs and McGee perform yet another NCIS home search, McGee reminisces about the time Tony threw a rock through the window of the premises (Sub Rosa, Episode 1.7) and the time he had to lift Kate onto a roof (See No Evil, Episode 2.1). Gibbs just picks the lock.
Rating: I want to like this one. Kate gets to look fancy and carry a weapon, and her meet-cute ends up being fun instead of painful. McGee learns a valuable lesson about having heroes. Gibbs shows who the real investigator is. Tony tricks Kate out of her Fruity Pebbles $40.00.
