Whendesigning electronic systems, you design them with an expected lifetime. You then choose components that will result in (usually) 90-99% of the systems reaching that lifetime without failure. If you need a component with a MTBF of 1,000,000 hours, you buy the least-expensive component that meets that requirement.

If a manufacturer sells crap to a system maker, chances are good they are not going to get repeat business. There is no incentive for the component manufacturer to build an assembly line to create crappy capacitors or to sell bad stock.

The real question is how long can a server economically be sensible. Servers cost money to run (electricity cooling, etc). As servers get old, they get relatively worse/. They also stop having any financial value.

After 10 years, there can be a massive varience in reliability, due to power quality, heat, even humidity.

If you run your server off a good UPS and keep the heat and humidity in check, then I only see the HDD as the primary weekness

Dell does not make any products they just make stickers. You are normally running Intel/WD/Nvidia with a pretty Dell label. That being said MTBF is just an advice area. As SSD runs longer MTBF may extend it may not it is a Mean. So there are some smaller some larger however the Mean is X. That being said having a good backup and shutting down the system to replace the drives, if you plan well you should be able to pull it off in 30. With how old these systems are and solid you are talking about you could even possibly virtualize these systems bring up the image, sync it. Shut down the physical do upgrade maint swap drives, blow out fans, check any plastic connectors for cracks and breakages, replace power supply if required. After the maint cycle bring the physical back up and resync your data and you will be good to go. It would be a nice practice to have just incase you get hit by a virus that wipes your servers.

A company that may lose $20,000/Hr due to downtime has a much lower risk tolerance than a company that loses $200/Hr, therefor the company with the larger risk tends to mitigate that risk, while the lower risk company does not.

The oldest server I have seen still running was a Dell purchased in 2006, it has had disks replaced a few times and the RAM was changed, but other than that it still does what it needs to do and just runs older legacy HR software to pull reports on payslips from 5+ years.

@Nichtraucher

Can you post the url of the Nextcloud instance e.g. After the TLD cloud, you can add /status.php to get the version. E.g. For this url i get the version Nextcloud 23.0.7. And yes Nextlcoud 23 is End of Life look here.

Maybe you must move manually. Please read this article at the position End of life free01.thegood.cloud. Maybe it is the same for your Nextcloud server but there is only no article yet.

Providers should already plan their updates so that they never reach End of Life. But it must also be said that the release cycles are short and the supported releases in the community variant are few.

In most cases, we recommend moving to our Cloud products as soon as possible. By partnering with Atlassian on their move to Cloud, customers have seen lower costs, increased reliability, uptime, and security, and can focus on innovation over maintenance.

For customers with business requirements that prevent you from operating in Cloud, we also continue to offer Data Center.

Start by comparing your options and assessing which is best for your organization. Upon determining which is the best fit, use our Cloud migration guide or Data Center upgrade guide to get started.

As of 23:59 AEST on February 15, 2024, Atlassian and Marketplace Partners no longer provide technical support for any issues, security updates, or bug fixes for critical vulnerabilities. Regular security updates help protect your business from threats and vulnerabilities, so we recommend moving to our Cloud or Data Center products as soon as possible.

If you don't have an existing Server license for the app, then as of February 2, 2021 you can no longer purchase or request a quote for any of these apps. These apps (or the equivalent native functionality) will only be available by moving to Cloud or Data Center.

As of February 15, 2024, Atlassian Marketplace no longer provides assistance with purchasing, renewing, upgrading, or promotion creation for any Server apps for Jira, Confluence, Bitbucket, Bamboo, and Crowd.

We understand staying supported is a top priority. You have two options to move to a supported platform: migrate to Cloud or upgrade to Data Center. Cloud is our recommended option for the majority of our customers as it allows your teams to work faster, smarter, and stronger together on a trusted platform.

The final Server feature releases are Bitbucket 8.14, Bamboo 9.4, and Crowd 5.2. All future feature releases will only support our Data Center offering. Fisheye and Crucible will continue to remain in basic maintenance mode.

If you qualified for dual licensing and purchased a Cloud subscription between September 12, 2023, and February 15, 2024, you are eligible for extended Server support for up to 12 months. This offer was designed for larger, more complex Server customers to provide ample time for migration without the need to pay for both a Cloud subscription and a Server license simultaneously.

Atlassian will also continue to support Atlassian-owned apps such as Automation for Jira, Team Calendars for Confluence, Assets, and Assets Discovery. This support is also available for up to 12 months from the date of your Cloud subscription purchase, or until February 15, 2025, whichever comes first. Please note that there will not be any support provided for Advanced Roadmaps and Analytics for Confluence.

After February 2, 2021 PT, server customers can no longer purchase or request a quote for any of these apps. These apps (or the equivalent native functionality) will only be available by moving to cloud or Data Center. If you have a valid quote, we will honor it for licenses purchased after this date.

You can no longer purchase new apps for your existing server licenses. App renewals are expected to be prorated with an end date of February 2, 2024 PT to match your server products' end of support date.

Effective February 2, 2021 PT, we stopped selling new licenses for our server products and ceased new feature development in our server product line. Existing server customers have access to maintenance and support for an additional three years, ending February 2, 2024 PT.

By partnering with Atlassian on their move to cloud, customers have seen lower costs, reduced risk of downtime and security issues, and can focus on innovation over maintenance. To quickly compare costs and see your recommended path to cloud based on your server products, use our personalized recommendation tool.

Take a look at our cloud roadmap and the Trust Center for additional information on compliance and security for Atlassian cloud products, and how our teams are expanding coverage to help you meet compliance needs.

Available today: Currently, data residency is available today as part of our cloud Enterprise plan, which is best for our largest customers who also need additional administrative, security, and scale features.

OEMs introduce new technological innovations regularly, but you need to consider if the cost of a refresh or upgrade is in your best interest. While servers do have a legitimate end-of-life date, the time does not need to be determined by OEMs. Consistent maintenance can extend the life of last-generation hardware for the benefit of your data center and your organization. Pre-owned and refurbished servers and other hardware can continue their life cycle long past the suggested time of 3, 5, or 10 years.

Server state signifies the specific condition of a server in the life cycle management. System administrators use the server state information to plan the administration tasks related to the application services. You can get the server state using Administration Console or command prompt scripts.

WebLogic Server displays and stores information about the current state of a server instance, and state transitions that have occurred since the server instance started up. This information is useful to administrators who:

A server instance enters the SHUTDOWN state as result of a Shutdown or Force Shutdown command. In addition, a server instance can terminate itself when it detects, as a result of self-health monitoring, that it has become unstable. Only a server instance with its Auto Kill If Failed attribute set to True will terminate itself when it detects that it is failed. See Automatic Restart for Failed Server Instances.

A Managed Server contacts the Administration Server for its configuration and security data. If the Managed Server is configured for SSL communications, it uses its own certificate files, key files, and other SSL-related files and contacts the Administration Server for the remaining configuration and security data.

If the Managed Server cannot contact its Administration Server, by default, it starts up in Managed Server Independence mode, using its locally cached copy of the domain config directory. See Understanding Managed Server Independence Mode.

Do not add non-configuration files in the config directory or sub-directories. Non-configuration files include log (.log) and lock (.lck) files. Administration Server replicates the config directory in all Managed Server instances. Storing non-configuration files in the config directory can cause performance issues in the domain.

The only life cycle command that causes a server instance to enter the STANDBY state and remain in that state is the Start in Standby command. A server instance transitions through the STANDBY state when you issue a Start or a Start in Admin command.

In the ADMIN state, WebLogic Server is up and running, but available only for administration operations, allowing you to perform server and application-level administration tasks. When a server instance is in the ADMIN state:
