At the same time, Netflix with ads also feels half-baked. I quickly found some missing titles, including some of the best shows on Netflix. The good news, though, is that there didn't seem to be too many ads. Four or five minutes per hour, which is better than broadcast TV. Also, unlike on Hulu, there were no ads when I paused a show.

Everyone was reacting to the death of King George, and the second Martin Charteris ran out of a room and hopped into a car, a Chevy Silverado ad played. The volume jump, and the tonal change, were simply jarring.

The visual fidelity loss wasn't obvious until later scenes in the episode. So when Vanessa Kirby's Princess Margaret went off on a galloping horse, moving faster than those before, I started to notice visual artifacts (akin to glitches, but more forgivable) that were due to the 720p stream. If you're worried it could have been my Wi-Fi, I watched Netflix with ads on a PS5 that's hard-wired to my router to ensure stability (and tested 4K Netflix on that same console hours earlier).

The downgrade became more obvious during a scene where John Lithgow's Winston Churchill was up at night worrying about his address to the public, following King George VI's death. The light cast upon walls in that dimly lit room created more pixely splotching, which I also saw in the scene where Claire Foy's to-be-Queen Elizabeth II was asked about possibly changing her name.

But the biggest problem I had was how jarring the ad-breaks were. Netflix Originals are not made for ads, and The Crown's second episode is perfect proof. They came in-between scene-cuts, which is good, but they still didn't fit at all. For example, everyone was reacting to the death of King George, and the second Martin Charteris (Harry Hadden-Paton) ran out of a room and hopped into a car, a Chevy Silverado ad played. The volume jump, and the tonal change, were simply jarring.

Later, when Elizabeth's plane was flying out of Nairobi, and a child was chanting in Swahili, another ad jumped in. This time, a Bud Light ad, blasting "You Sexy Thing" by the British funk group Hot Chocolate played.

Hilariously, the Community episodes I watched (episodes 2 and 3) both didn't have any ad breaks. Not giving up there, I turned on the first Seinfeld episode (making a new Netflix account for this meant all my progress was lost). That didn't have ads either.

Some shows and movies are still in negotiation, as the Wall Street Journal reported. This is only obvious once you happen upon a show you want to watch, only to find a little red lock icon in its tile.

The most frustratingly locked title of them all, at least for me, was The Good Place. Again, a show made with ad-breaks isn't working in Netflix with ads. Even Netflix Original House of Cards (which is distributed Sony Pictures Television) is missing.

Variety reported that five to 10% of titles (depending on your country) are supposed to be missing at the time of launch. This is obvious a small amount, but kinda kills the whole on-demand-buffet nature that Netflix is rooted in.

Right now, Netflix with ads has three problems. The most annoying, I'd say, is how some shows and movies are missing. This will likely be fixed in time. The next up is the fact that you need to downgrade to 720p to watch it.

As for the poor ad placement. I think that will be impossible to fix for some shows. Hopefully, Netflix can figure something out. Maybe run a bulk of ads up front, and none in the middle? Right now, I don't see myself going back to Netflix with ads.

@GeneralBob Thanks for your prompt response. We are subscribed to the Sky+ HD Package so Sky Cinema is included and therefore, as you say, Paramount+ too. I've not signed up for a trial with Paramount+ but had seen the offer and price to do so, hence my post. I do not have Episodes 2 and 10 on my planner, other episodes were downloading as I watched Episode 1. Someone mentioned that there are physically no Episode numbers on the guide. We only realised we were missing 2 and 10 when my son searched for an Episode guide via Google. Guess we now sit and wait patiently.

Given the present economic situation I am not looking to take on additional costs. Especially in circumstances such as this. Upgrade to Sky Q simply in order to watch episodes of a series? Two episodes that ought in all reasonableness to be readily available in any event.

That was a shocking reply from Viewer Relations as it is completely wrong about this as this missing episodes should appear sometime so it will be a case of keep checking for them over the coming days.

@SKY1992bf I see what you mean. It seems there is a different view depending on how you access the content. For example, selecting Catch Up on the box then La Brea from the Featured menu shows a list of episode titles as well as episode numbers, in the right order. Selecting Catch Up, Paramount+, Drama, then La Brea shows episodes in tiles with only their titles listed - no episode numbers, but in the right order. That's what nearly caught me out - I nearly started episode 3 by accident.

I asked Sky Viewer Relations whether there were any plans to include episode metadata in the tile view and their response was that it is controlled by Paramount, not Sky, and I should contact Paramount to ask the question of them. I haven't done that.

The Paramount+ service is still pretty new, so hopefully they'll improve it in time. Personally, I appreciate having it included at no additional cost and accept there will be some teething problems. The proof in the pudding is how Paramount, and Sky for any element they are responsible for, react to issues and enhancements.

obviously most people will know that pilot means episode 1, but then it's the storm and you only find out it's episode 7 once you press on the tile , surely it would be better to label the episode 7.the storm at top level rather than it currently is

Been watching 4-5 episodes of Macleoud's Daughters once a week. It has "jumped"(thereby missing), episodes in the past, but yesterday was extra "weird". Went from end of S5,E32 to S5,E110, then to E116, then to E135., and finally to S6,E1, when I shut it off. Also, scenes in some of these episodes were way out of sequence and also repeated in other episodes. Anyone else have similar problems? Thanks for any suggestions.

Does the issue only occur on a specific content/channel or across other channels installed on your Roku device? On what app you're accessing Macleoud's Daughters? Please let us know. We'd like to know more about how we can help.

Using a Roku Express-purchased at Christmas at WalMart(special unit). Tuned to Roku channel. Be advised only other channels I have watched was IMDB (for about 10 episodes of "Sea Patrol", and it skipped a bit. When commercials became "too much", I switched watching it to Hulu. Also had a slight bit of "running the show on" after I shut TV down. As an episode is displaying its closing credits, is when I click my device to "Home Page", and then shut down my TV, and computer system. Thank you for any assistance

Having same problem with this series. Finished Season 3 and when I went to 4 is started having ads. I have subscription with Acorn and should have ads. Also, when I get out and go back in it brings to Season3 Episode 22. Also no close caption anymore.

So I've been watching the McLoed's Daughters series and the series is out of sequence (especially in Series 7) also the series has several episodes linked to the Dove Channel. Would be nice if they were in order.....

Starting with season 5 through 8 there are SEVERAL episodes out of order due to the way they episode is numbered. I have also had episodes that came up as pay channels, so could not watch those either. It is very disheartening to miss episodes or watch them out of order. Please fix this for others that will be watching this wonderful series. thank you

Just watch it on Crackle (free channel). These are all in order there and playing correctly. Disregard the Season number as the episodes are in chronological order so Season 5 actually contains Season 4 episodes but they are all playing in correct order. Unfortunately, when issues like this arise, Roku of late does little to address this despite statements to the contrary. (ie. "the appropriate team will look into this.") Best course of action is to look for another channel that is playing the content correctly and let the Community know.

Unbelievable that in this day and age, we cannot pause, rewind, FF live tv using Xumo/Spectrum App. We received our Xumo devices this week, hooked them up, thought they were great, until I wanted to go to the bathroom and tried to pause what I was watching. Nope, cannot do that. We are back to our cable boxes. However, I might keep the Xumo devices, since they are inexpensive, for streaming and in the hopes that they figure out how to add pausing live TV.

In order to rewind live TV there needs to be something recording and storing content as it is watched. Even traditional cable needs a DVR to do this, and we do offer a Cloud DVR service which can grant those capabilities through the Spectrum TV app.

At this time no device that has access to use the Spectrum TV app has the ability to pause/rewind/fast forward live TV. That is only an ability of the physical DVR boxes we offer. There is no information as to if or when this function will be available on the app.
