Thisyear is the 20th anniversary of the best burnout game, B3. Rumour has it that Stellar Entertainment (Burnout: Paradise, Need For Speed Remastered and Need for Speed Unbound) are working on a remaster..

Wonder what they'll do with it beyond making all the old gits moan about them adding too many visual items of flair, and too much many additional items to the courses so we can't see where we're going.

As I've mentioned several times now I'm playing the PS2 version upscaled 4x, so it's not adding anything in but massively improving the details, making things like car tail lights on the horizon far easier to spot - bumping the simpler visuals feels far preferable for my eyes over adding loads of stuff.

There is definitely some sort of viewpoint choice made in the original game with an almost GoPro like stretching of the scenery as it passes right by you, not sure if that will be kept for posterity or 'corrected'.

If it's indeed a remaster as is commonly understood in gaming, then they will not any of that. It would be upscaled, the performance hopefully improved, maybe some QOL changes related to the interface and/or controls, things like that. Actually changing the graphics the way you're describing would make it a remake I think.

On the OG Xbox you could replace the game soundtrack with music you ripped off your own CDs. I can't remember why I did it but played Burnout 3 with I Am Kurious Oranj by The Fall as the soundtrack for a bit.

They didn't add much to the Hot Pursuit remaster, but I think they touched up the textures and models, and probably added some fancy reflections and lighting so that the game looks like you remembered it, rather than as it actually was. I can imagine them doing some stuff like that to improve it - playing it at 1080P on emulation sometimes gives the road textures an odd, gritty look, and things like the sun glare effect can look strange at high resolution. I can see them potentially beefing up the trackside textures and models too - it all looks fine when you're bezzing along at 200mph, but it can look a bit sparse and bare when watching the takedown cam.

I think that I'd want 40k60 with raytraced reflections on cars. One of the things that gives the sensation of speed on the original version is the reflection of bridges & streetlamps on the roof of the car. A higher fidelity version of that could be cool.

Great timing! I am playing Burnout 3 via PCSX2 in 4k and its glorious! I am also playing the NFS remake and its great fun with great controls but all I really want it Burnout 3 again with full online (maybe crash junctions with a decent damage model) and autolog.

I'm glad it's not a remake honestly. Why limit yourself to the same tracks and events? There's no story to stick to, so what would be the point? Absolutely stick to what made 3 great though, no need to re imagine the concept.

Stellar Entertainment, the developer behind Burnout Paradise Remastered, could be teasing a new instalment in the car crashing franchise is in the works. Yesterday, the studio tweeted it wanted to share some "insider intel" in order to hint at what it's working on, with an image attached reading: "POV: You're about to be rear ended." Along with mentions of "take downs", these could be references to a new Burnout game, since the series is known for crashes and taking down rival cars.

In reference to the picture, the developer tweeted out: "Our way of giving you (kinda weird) insider intel about what we're working on, without actually telling you what we're working on..." It continued: "And the bosses *still* haven't issued any take downs! Happy days!"

Noticed by Eurogamer, Stellar Entertainment is currently hiring for a AAA arcade racing game built in Unreal Engine 5 for current-gen consoles and PC. It'll be "disrupting the racing scene" and is "approaching launch readiness". As well as remastering Burnout Paradise, the team also worked on Need for Speed Unbound and Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit Remastered. The series hasn't been seen since Paradise was remastered, though longtime fans continually ask for its comeback.

Liam grew up with a PlayStation controller in his hands and a love for Metal Gear Solid. Nowadays, he's found playing the latest and greatest PS5 games as well as supporting Derby County. That last detail is his downfall.

This will be a hard pill to swallow for the original Burnout creators over at Three Fields Entertainment, especially as any new Burnout game would overshadow their Wreckreation game... assuming it's being released in 2024.

@Olmaz Open world is what made Burnout Paradise awesome. I could participate in races or just spend countless hours driving around exploring driving through signs and fences. Going back to tracks would be a step backwards for Burnout.

@Dman10 Me too. It's still my favorite racer for that reason. Forza Horizon feels a bit too big to enjoy in the same way. Somehow Burnout Paradise had just the right size of map. I love being able to start and stop anything I liked. But my fave feature was the new vehicle shutdowns - they were such a buzz

@Dman10 I know I'm against the grain here, don't get me wrong. But personally, going around an empty city/world with a car is boring, and doesn't even get close to the thrill of a well-designed dynamic track.

I'm a big burnout fan and knew many of the devs in Criterion in Guildford back when the series was originally developed. I would love to see a modern burnout game and I'm keeping my fingers crossed for it!

I still own a PS2 slim and a few years ago my fiancee bought me Burnout 3 on PS2 (I traded away my og copy LONG ago). Let me tell you, I had an absolute BLAST playing that again. The speed, adrenaline, hard hits (takedowns). It's just a whole different experience from Paradise.

@Deljo yeah me too. When i used to play xbox it was always about Forza motorsport for me whilst everyone was raving over the Horizon series. I just cant dig an open world racer. I need a track that gives me the excitement of learning every corner and nailing it.

Now if were talking about an arcade game im all in for a point to point racer like the original burnouts but if its like paradise count me out.

The original Burnout was the most intense game I've ever played. High stakes and super unforgiving with maximum adrenaline. The others are fantastic and built on the formula but I always appreciated how savage that game was.

This headline alone caused my pulse to quicken! Love all the games, but for me Burnout Revenge was the pinnacle. Probably my fav game of all time. So expertly crafted and just beyond fun. Had a Burnout playlist (moving Mp3s to the Xbox 360 lol) that I always played during Revenge. I would be happy to see any or all of the Burnout games in current gen. Actually anything Burnout related! Let's get DJ Atomika back on Crash FM as well while we're at it!

Like Paradise is a fair game and the remaster helped for sure with interest besides the NFS remasters but having a more streets and varied events of the past is more interesting than another open world I'm not interested in those games at all in the racing space I'll go rally special stages or circuits or city streets before an open world racing game again.

Just offer the stunt and other events not in the older games (unless Revenge had them I only own Paradise, 1 and 3 Takedown). Some new modes maybe. I enjoyed OnRush as while MotorStorm like every mode was new and different showing other possibilities for those types of games.

Crash mode can come back. A bunch of cool stuff. Also fictional cars stay please. Like Wreckfest I had a blast driving fake vehicles, a sofa, bus, and more, doing derby events and more. I don't need real cars, I don't need an open world just fun events.

I've never played Burnout Paradise and I'm not much of a racing game person. With that being said, two of the most fun racing games from my childhood were Burnout 3 and Burnout Revenge because those games had a strong emphasis on cool crashing with the crash events and what not. Every so often though, I get the urge to get a racing game. Paradise remastered looks damn good and I'm sure it'll be great on my Pro with a 4K tv.

How is the actual game though? Does it still have amazing crashing physics? Are there modes that encourage that? If not, does it at least hold its own for what it wants to do? Convince me on this. I've "missed" Burnout since Revenge even though Paradise has always existed. I just don't know how different of a game it is.

While Paradise doesn't have a crash mode (it does have something called showtime mode, which is similar but pretty half baked), there is definitely still an emphasis on crashing. It still has the road rage events from previous games where you have to get a certain amount of takedowns and even with the normal races, you'll probably never get through one without seeing a crash of some kind. If you like the takedown aspect of the games, there's plenty of that but if the crash mode is the biggest draw for you, you'll probably be disappointed.
