The route on Glacier at this time of year would be difficult due to
access and low snow.
Erick suggest Eldorado Peak which is a great climb. It will be 7,000
feet in two days with a short access from the parking lot off of
Cascade River Road. We will meet in the large parking lot about 20
miles from Marblemount at 8am on Saturday the 5th of June. At the 90°
turn in Marblemount go straight across the bridge to a large car park
about 20 miles down Cascade River Road. Bring Ice axe, snowshoes,
ropes, tent, crampons, etc. Practice your knots!! Please email if you
will be climbing. It is a fun easy snow climb of a 8,900 foot peak.
The total vertical will be less than 7,000. The camping site is
spectacular with a fun ridge climb on snow to the summit. Let me know
if you will be climbing. Our next climb will be Rainier on July 10th
so this will be a good opportunity to assess your conditioning.
Between June 5th/6th and July 10th climbers should plan on making a
trip or two to Muir to ferry supplies and training. If you want to
organize a date let us know. Muir trips should also include support
people.
What degree of difficulty would you say Eldorado Peak is? Also, what
do you think the snow conditions will be like next week?
I would like to do this climb but I would not want to get burned out
too early in deep wet snow like last time on Mt Baker. I would like
to use my snow shoes as much as possible.
