Troubling news from Colombia. Asking for us to sign: “. . . only congregations and organizations can sign, not individuals.” I will ask Church Council on Thursday night this week.

If we can get a “quorum” of affirmations from the P&J google group, we could also list “Peace & Social Justice Committee of Rainbow Mennonite Church” as an organization.

Stand with Justapaz

Ask your congregation to sign a letter in support of Justapaz, a ministry of the Mennonite Church of Colombia and a long-term partner of Mennonite Central Committee (MCC).

Background: On July 14, Justapaz was named in a death threat by an armed group in Colombia, part of a troubling increase in death threats and assassinations in recent months in Colombia. Justapaz is asking congregations throughout the U.S. and elsewhere to sign a letter of support. This is an important way to be in solidarity with Justapaz and others in Colombia working for peace and justice.

Background from Justapaz | A call for hope and continued peacebuilding from Colombia

Faith reflection: "Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God." (Matthew 5:9)

Action:

  1. Ask your congregation to sign the letter of support by sending an email to just...@justapaz.org or colom...@mcc.org. (Only congregations and organizations can sign, not individuals.)
  2. Share this request with others.

Sure, Phil, I would be happy for our P&J Committee to stand with Justapaz. -- Leroy
