Located: Abingdon, VAMax - Anonymous Sponsorship $200 - pittie mix, chocolate/white, male, ~9 months, 56lbs. Max is a friendly and curious dog with a relaxed, affectionate demeanor. Although he was just surrendered when we met him, he was a charming pup - happy to share "hugs" and ask for a little TLC. Naturally outgoing and chill but playful when the time is right. Max appears overall healthy - now UTD on vaccinations + dewormed. He was recently surrendered due to a landlord dispute. UPDATE: Dog tested well!
Brock - Anonymous Sponsorship $200 - pittie mix, gray/white, male, 10y+, 65lbs. SENIOR ALERT! SUSPECTED DEAF! Brock is a chill, curious dog who is suspected to be house trained and may be deaf (absolutely no reaction to multiple loud sounds around him.) He seemed to really enjoy hanging out in the yard with us today and was calm as can be when we handled him. Brock's eyes are a bit foggy with age but he still retains at least some vision; otherwise, he's in good body condition. He was owner surrendered alongside Cash following the death of their previous owner. UPDATE: Dog tested well!
Cash - Anonymous Sponsorship $200 - pittie mix, sandy brown, male, 5-8y, 55lbs. NEUTERED! Cash was surrendered with Brock following the death of their owner and is currently showing some fearfulness, though he is sweet in temperament and gave us a few wags. Zero aggression shown, just very timid. He showed good independent behavior while exploring the yard with us. He has noticeable broad hair loss and skin issues but many spots appear to be regrowing (additional photos available). Cash is otherwise in good body condition. UPDATE: Dog tested well!
Sully - Anonymous Sponsorship $200 - JRT/boxer? mix, red/white, male, 1-2y, 61lbs. NEUTERED! Sully is a calm, friendly, and easy-going dog who goes with the flow. He was a dream to handle today, good on the leash and happy to follow directions. Lots of wags with an outgoing personality! Sully appears to be overall healthy but is a smidge overweight currently. Now UTD on vaccinations + dewormed! He came to the shelter as a stray. UPDATE: Dog tested well! The tiniest grumble at first but quickly relaxed into playful exploration.
Tanner - boxer/husky mix, brindle/white, male, 3-5y, 75lbs. Tanner is a strong, playful adult dog with a curious spirit and a most excellent "sit"! He's treat-motivated and takes every one with the gentlest of manners. Tanner is a curious and outgoing guy, and we suspect he may be housebroken. He appears overall healthy but does have some scabbing of unknown origin on his nose (additional photos available on request.) He came to the shelter as a stray. UPDATE: Dog test - Tanner was a little uncomfortable with his random partner but reacted like a total champ.
Panda - bully mix, black/white, female, 8-10y, 98lbs. SENIOR ALERT! Are you looking for an XL couch hippo to brighten up your day? Look no further than Panda! Despite her large size, Panda is a gentle, curious soul with a love of sniffing and ear scritches. She was sweet as can be for us today, did so well on the leash, and had no problems with us checking her over. Overall, a very good girl with an amazing "smile"! Panda's ears were cropped very short at one point (possibly a DIY job), and her left ear canal is suspicious for an infection. She has a few soft lumps and bumps typical of an older dog. Panda came to the shelter as an owner surrender because the owner no longer had time for her.
Pascal - Anatolian shepherd mix, tan/black, male, 9-12m, 41lbs. Pascal is an energetic, outgoing young dog who we can promise will be THRILLED to meet you! Give him belly rubs and he'll be putty in your hands. Playful and curious with delightfully expressive ears, always prepared to approach the world with a nonstop wagging tail and a friendly lick. Pascal appears overall healthy. He came to the shelter as a stray. UPDATE: Dog tested well!
Huckleberry - pittie mix, gray/white, male, ~1y, 60lbs. Huckleberry is positively stoked to make new friends - he greeted us with such enthusiasm today that you would think we were old BFFs! He's an energetic go-getter with a playful streak. Huck showed us several textbook perfect "sits" today, seems quite treat motivated, and was an absolute lovebug. He appears overall healthy. Huck came to the shelter as a stray.
Community Rehoming Requests (Pre-Shelter)
Lady – Aussie mix, black/gray/white merle, female, ~7mo, 35lbs estimate. Lady’s current owner is seeking a new home for this pup. Her original owner died and the gentleman who took Lady on afterwards abandoned her. ☹ The mother of the second owner is now caring for Lady until she can be rehomed. Lady was adopted 4-5 months ago and is a normal, active puppy, just looking for love. She has beautiful bicolor eyes and ears with a mind of their own!
Raleigh – lab/golden retriever mix, blond, male, 2 years. NEUTERED! UTD on all vaccinations! Received routine vetting! Raleigh is looking for his next stop after his family recently had a baby and feel they can no longer give him the attention he needs to thrive. He is playful, athletic, and an all-around very good boy. He loves hanging out with his people and is crate trained. Does have some separation anxiety that was improved by Prozac, which he is not currently taking. Reportedly good with other dogs, cats, children, and strangers. Raleigh has been boarding with a local vet for several weeks but will be surrendered to the shelter at the end of this week if rescue placement isn’t found – his people wanted to give him the best chance to go to a place that can appreciate this charming boy.
Honey plus 8 - Momma Honey is a petite redbone hound mix around 40ish pounds and 4-5 years old. Super sweet (thus her name). Likes lots of attention and pets. Good with other dogs. Cats unknown. Lived with a 10 year old boy at one time (so good with older kids). No known vetting. Dad is a neighbor's dog described as a small lab mix. Puppies are 5 weeks old, well socialized, and wiggly! Puppies are still nursing. Honey does enjoy time away from the puppies now that they are older.
