Except for Farhang Farahi, I do not know anyone named in this symbolic event. So, I have no idea what their intentions are, but I give them the benefit of a doubt for good motives. Taking this as the premise and applying it to the current political environment, I wonder what purpose does it serve? Is it a reminder of what the U.S. did TO a nation or just a symbolic name and scholarship to students who may not even know who he was, let alone caring for what he stood for?
Obviously, there are many other questions and answers. Yet paraphrasing the renowned Noam Chomsky that the U.S. political system is based on a one BUSINESS party with two democratic and republican factions, it is indeed an outrageously lucrative BUSINESS! What a trade it is to take control of major resources of a nation, and honor it with a name recognition to the person whose ONLY crime was to serve his people! So the last question is whether Dr. Mossadegh would have shook hands for such a deal?
Don’t take me wrong. I am neither cynical nor do I support animosity between two nations. All am saying is the oppressor should compensate the oppressed for its wrongdoing AND not to oppress them even more to subjugation.
Peace,
Mohamad Purqurian
