to Railway recorded announcements
I just want to tank you and your fellow enthusiasts in the "railway-
announcements" group for uploading all these files, and for putting
names to the voices..
I know this sounds odd, but I've always enjoyed the sound of a clear,
well-spoken voice, no matter what it's saying. In its own way, it can
even be more stimulating and soothing than muzak or anything like
that.
Listening some of your files, especially all the older announcements,
has brought brought back many happy memories of journeys I made as a
child. (Does anyone else remember an announcement in the 70s/early
80s that used to say "Ashtead, Leatherhead, Boxhill, and Dorking" in a
rhythmic, almost iambic pentameter style? Beautiful.)
Don't get me wrong. I like modern announcements too. After all, in
today's dumbed-down world, they're one of the few convenient
opportunities I get to enjoy a clear, precise, well-spoken voice in my
day-to-day life.
When I'm in a carriage full of chaotic kids, there's something about
the sound of Automatic Auntie that acts as the perfect antidote to
their noisy babble as she calmly tells us that we are approaching
Clapham Junction and that this is coach 1 of 4.
So anyway, keep up the good work guys, and thanks.
