GitHub has reached out to us about sharing this opportunity with any of you who may be interested -- Google Summer of Code.

I personally haven't participated in Google Summer of Code before, but I know people who have and I've heard really great things about it. If you're passionate about open source and/or want to put all that stuff you learned to use, this would be a worth a look.

Best wishes,
Melissa

Google Summer of Code is an online, international program for students to work on an open source software project from May - August. Google Summer of Code offers real-world software development experiences with non-profit and industry members on a paid project. For more on eligibility, please check here. GitHub is participating as a mentoring organization this year and has a ton of great project possibilities on our ideas page here.

If you are accepted to complete a project with us this year and you successfully complete the entire project, you'll be earning $5500! You'll be mentored through the project during the term and will get real-world experience in using version control with distributed teams across multiple timezones and countries.

You can contact us with questions at opens...@github.com or find us on Gitter.

We look forward to seeing a proposal from you! Don't delay, though: the deadline to apply is Friday, March 25, 2016 at 12:00 PM Pacific Time.

Cheers,
The GitHub Open Source, Social Impact and Education Teams

FYI - GSoC is only for those who are currently enrolled in a university. Sorry!
