This week is the Global Hour of Code, a campaign to introduce computer science.     Smarterer is hosting a session in Boston  Wednesday 12/10, 6:00-8:00,  at 290 Congress Street,  the same building where the monthly Boston Ruby meetups are held.   They're still looking for mentors as well.

Want a little taste of Javascript?  Want to mentor?  Signup is here: http://www.eventbrite.com/e/smarterers-hour-of-code-intro-to-javascript-tickets-14750486101

From the invite:

Connect with peers + pick up new programming skills.

We recently shared the news that Pluralsight, the largest curated e-library for professionals, acquired Smarterer, the best assessment engine in the world. Now we’re teaming up to show you what’s possible when you combine the power of self-assessment with learning from top experts.

As part of Teach the Hour of Code, a global initiative happening December 8-13, we invite you to join us for a power hour intro to programming. Roll up your sleeves for a hands-on session, as Smarterer’s Jim Myers teaches a class on Javascript basics (the programming language that helps make the interwebz look slick and interactive).

Schedule

  • 6:00-6:20 pm: Arrive, meet dev mentors and eat/drink

  • 6:20-7:30 pm: Hands-on Hour of Code Javascript class

  • 7:30-7:45 pm: Questions

  • 7:45-8:00 pm: Wrap up

Please bring your laptop to the class.

Already a developer but want to help out? We’re looking for volunteer dev mentors to work with students throughout the class to answer questions and provide best practices. Just register for a “Dev Mentor” ticket and a member of our team will follow up with more details!

Cheers-
Janet
