Melbourne RORO - October, 2011

hi, guys :)

I know that this month's Melbourne RORO is 29th of October, 2011 but
where and when (likely 6pm for a 6.30pm start) are we having it?

Where are the Melbourne RORO meetups publicised? The sydney meetups
seem to be consistently put up on http://rubyonrails.com.au/ but the
Melbourne ones don't seem to make it.

The Melbourne meets are always mentioned on this list - and yes, I'm aware that they're rarely on rubyonrails.com.au - there's been some talk in backchannels about that site and how it should be used.

As for next week's meet - Ben's sorting out a venue at the moment (we may be at a new location this time around), but you can definitely expect things to kick off from 6 for a 6:30 start as always. Ben will update us on the venue as soon as he has it confirmed.

I think continuing to use this list would be fine—However over the years I've had a bunch of employers email me personally to ask where the meetups are and they heard on the grapevine about their existance… 

If anything, I think it'd be good to start using a calendar based service (meetup, lanyrd?) that had an API or HTML widget that we could drop into rubyonrails.com for such people. (Happy to help or action this at some stage…) 

Its also worth mentioning that Pat is referring to Ben Hoskings, and not me :-)

I am a little confused with the dates mentioned in this thread
(October as the thread title, but mentions of a meetup "next week" in
posts).

Is there a meetup this month? I have recently moved back to Melbourne
from London and would love to meet with the rails community here

You're right - the subject of this thread is a little misleading. The next Melbourne meet (September's) is tonight at Inspire9 - you can find the finer details here:

The Melbourne Ruby meets happen on the last Thursday of the month, and are always announced here (sometimes early, sometimes late) - the one exception is December, where there's usually drinks earlier in the month instead.
